We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Nia Chanel. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Nia below.
Alright, Nia thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
My mom is the best mom and Momager you could honestly ask for. She also gives the best business, academics and friend advice whenever I need it. The way she supports my dreams and goals as an actress and dancer will forever stand out to me. Whether that is driving back and forth to California, showing up to all dance performances or helping me prepare. I definitely would not be where I am now without her in my corner along with the rest of my village.
Nia, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well I’ve been acting for about 7 years and been dancing my whole life. However, I didn’t start dancing in a studio until I was 9 at Jukebox Grounds. We just finished our latest competition at Body Rock in San Diego. It started off with my mom putting me in theater camp at Chandler Center for the Arts and she saw how I glowed in my element on stage. So, she submitted me to Good Faith Casting for a science film called Dream Big: Engineering Our World and it was my first real booking. Not too long after that, she brought me to LA Acting Academy where I got my first agent and manager. I’ve since been on Abbott Elementary on Hulu and ABC, HBO’s Insecure, Netflix, Fox sports, commercials and the lead in the award winning short film Souls.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to continue to grow and have a long career in this industry. With more success will come more notoriety but, I genuinely love what I do and hope to do it forever. Also, to work on projects with some of my idols would be incredible or with my peers as we grow together. The chaotic action of the behind the scenes work and getting ready for set brings me a huge thrill!
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
I wish I knew more about building my social media. There are many ways to get to where you want to be and at moments social media plays a huge part. Instagram is a challenge with content and branding. And it doesn’t help when my account gets shadowed banned. There’s a lot to building your social media that people don’t really think about. But, it’s worth it when you see the growth and opportunities influencers gain by making a positive name for themselves on social media.
