Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Kevin Morgan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Kevin thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
I worked at a local shelter for 7years during that time I noticed how complex being homeless /incarcerated had an effect on people .What really grabbed my attention in 2021 two men lost there lives due to inclement weather. I believe the reason why they rather be on the streets is the fact that it’s hard to follow rules when you have mental issues or drug addictions that or left unaddressed. What bother me is I couldn’t do anything about it , and what hurt even more is I became attached to these individuals because I had the opportunity to spend time with them when they stayed at the shelter. Being that mental illness is so intricate without proper training there is no way to handle certain situations like the two people I’m talking about . I thought to myself I have to do something so I begin training myself on mental illness, counseling , etc. I stepped out on faith and put in a two week notice and I began a transitional house . The day I made this decision I told myself I am going to meet people where they are in life . and it’s been challenging but every second has been worth every ounce of life in me because I refuse to watch another man lose his life to homelessness.
Kevin, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I personally struggled with drugs and spent 9 years on supervised incarceration. I went through a divorce and was on the brink of being homeless. I started working at a shelter in 2013/2021. What sets me apart from any other transitional living are homeless shelter is I give men a hand up not a hand out. Each person in my program gets his own mentor that will help them get back on their feet one step at a time. I also believe having your own space allows you to get your own place of residence . I offer transitional living for previously incarcerated individuals/homelessness . The main thing I want people to know is we all deserve another chance because nobody reading this article is perfect . What I’m most proud of is seeing these men get there life back in order from prevailing wage jobs to getting something as small as a driver license feel free to visit me at sent1one ministries.org
