We caught up with the brilliant and insightful JessAnne Guzman a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
JessAnne, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Looking back, do you think you started your business at the right time? Do you wish you had started sooner or later
Thank you all for granting me the opportunity to share. I feel it’s all about timing. In retrospect, I wish I would have started my business sooner but I let fear stand in my way. The fear of failing, not knowing the back end of a business and how it is supposed to run. Now that I’ve done it, everything has fell into place. Things I feared are easier than I expected but what I come to realize is you don’t really fail. You learn and grow.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I achieved an associate’s and earned my nursing degree as a Licensed Vocational Nurse from Midland College. This was a proud moment in my life. I was the first in my family to go to college. In my first nursing job, I worked for a physician who introduced me to the world of aesthetics and taught me everything I know to date.
I found this field to be the most interesting, especially now, since the world of aesthetics is constantly changing and evolving. I ranged from clinical care, dermatology, geriatric, pediatric, home health, and in-school nursing. Although, what I found to be most passionate about are dermatology, plastics, and aesthetics. I have extensive experience in skincare procedures. Specializing in the use of different lasers that treat and reverse the aging process.
At my current business, I offer skin care treatments such as selected facials, hydra facial, dermaplaning, chemical peels and micro-needling. That assist with acne, acne scarring, pigmentation, melasma, fine lines, wrinkles, and skin tightening.
I believe what sets me apart from others is my love for enhancing clients natural appearance. By speaking truthfully and honestly when figuring out a skincare regimen. I also take their lifestyle and budget into consideration. So that together we can accomplish one’s goals.
What I’m most proud of at this moment is achieving my goal. I always said I wanted to open my business by the time I was 40 years old and I did it. Sometimes you just have to have a little faith in yourself and just go for it. With the grace of God and support of my family, JessAnne Aesthetics L.L.C. was established. I’m proud to say I couldn’t be happier.
I would like the readers to know that it’s never too late to reach for your goals.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I would say being consistent with posts. Hiring out sources, if needed, to help you with post. Creatively and keeping up with what’s new. I was fortunate to have someone help me with my post. As a business owner, entrepreneur, and employee you are one person. You’re busy trying to keep up with everything that needs to be done. Paper work as well as treating clients. Social media can be overwhelming. I like to post at least 3 times a week. Choose a color scheme and make it your own. Don’t be afraid to show your personality through your page. Set goals and don’t be afraid to get out of your comfort zone. For example, I hate the sound of my voice. However, I’m beginning to post more talking educated videos as a way to connect with followers. By taking the time to speak more into the camera. Build that relationship and just show my self more. Hope to reach clients, educate over skin care and just connect. As they say consistency is key and stay true to yourself.
How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?
I will say funding my business has been the most challenging for me. When I say timing is everything, it really is. I didn’t have a business plan for my business. I knew that one day I would be a business owner but never did I think I would have the opportunity turn up so abruptly. Literally, one day to the next, I took everything I had in my savings and applied for my LLC, signed a lease for my suite, and purchased inventory. What helped me the most is throughout the years I made big purchases like my bed, facial supplies, and I knew what device I wanted to add to my business. I did all the research prior because I knew this day would come. It decreased the burden of having to purchase so many expenses at once. I would say take it a day at a time, little by little. Money comes and goes but if you save for the rainy day you can take anything and turn it into something great.
