We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Tally Bandz a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Tally , appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
My name is Tally Bandz. I’m the Queen of Bad B*tch Music and I’m from Richmond VA born and raised. My single “Show Me” was released on May 5 2023. I am super excited to release this song because this is my first R&B single where I am singing. I am a rapper, model and actress and I usually make sexy trap songs, but I wanted to dive in and be a little more diverse with my music. After releasing the song I’ve already received rave reviews from my fans as well as Dj’s wanting the track to spin on their sets. I shot the music video on May 26-27 and my music video is out now and y’all can watch it on YouTube. It’s fire and something my fans have never seen before from me! The song was produced by Aye Montie from the 757. He created the beat from scratch, I wrote the lyrics and rest is history. We created a super smooth, melodic and hypnotizing soulful pop track. I’m singing about past lovers that have cheated on me who claimed they were solid and loyal just to prove me otherwise. So in this song this Queen Baddie is waiting for her soulmate which I describe as a real man that’s loyal, honest, loving and solid. The cover art for “Show Me” was inspired by the scene from the movie “What’s Love Got To Do With It” where Ike abused Tina Turner in a diner. (RIP to the late great legendary queen) They were sitting at the diner and he was trying to force her to eat some cake. She didn’t want to and they ended up fighting. I chose that because there’s a line in my song where I say “I ain’t Anna Mae I ain’t eating no cake” which just means I’m a strong woman and I know my worth so I’m not going to put up with no BS even if his words are sweet as cake. And this correlated because the song is about a woman knowing her worth and not putting up with abuse or disloyalty from any man that claims he loves you. I create music for that sole reason to empower and inspire women to know and embody their feminine power and strength and no matter how much a man tries to tear and beat you down no matter how down trodden, broken, low, traumatized or penniless you feel you can LEAVE. You will find better and evolve into the powerful Goddess you’re meant to be and know that God will always make a way. Rest in heaven Anna Mae.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
I’m an artist, actress and fashion model. I started making music just for fun in 2017 and took it seriously in 2021. Since then I’ve built a massive fanbase of loyal fans across social media. I make music for baddies, to empower women to step into their femininity and Goddess power. The music I make is typically sexy and melodic trap songs. Once I started taking music seriously my career took off. In this and the past year alone I’ve opened for some heavy hitters in the industry including Trina, Dream Doll, and Maino, just to name a few. I’ve done several noteworthy appearances and interviews in TV and radio and I performed at iconic music festivals like SXSW and The Daze Summit in NY. And I’m set to grace the stages of the BET Awards, Rolling Loud Miami, and other major festivals across the globe this year.
I released my mixtape “Bad B*tch Music Vol. 1” last year to critical acclaim from my fans who dubbed it an instant classic with not one skip. I also just dropped my first R&B single “Show Me” that was well received by my fans and Dj’s. Make sure y’all stream my music it’s on all platforms.
I’ve also had a film I’m starring in titled “The Exit Row” released on all major streaming platforms – Amazon Prime, Tubi, Peacock, Hudu and Hoopla. I have another film I’m starring in called “Missionary” that’s coming to Tubi at the end of this year so stay tuned for that one it will be epic.
I feel what sets me apart from many other female artists is my versatility in my music and my mission to empower as many women as possible through my music and brand. There are so many of us experiencing traumatic relationships/situations due to us not knowing our value and worth and not unpacking or dealing with our childhood trauma. I’m here to change that narrative. Us Women are strong Goddesses. We must do our shadow work and transform ourselves for the betterment of our planet. We create life there would be nothing without women on this earth and we must demand respect and validate ourselves and put ourselves on pedestals like the Queens we are.
I do plan on dropping more music this year as well as another potential mixtape or album so stay tuned in my Baddiez and Bad Boyz.
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
I was raised by a single mom of three. We were poor and my mom struggled to pay bills. There were times when our lights went out and she couldn’t pay the electric bill. Coming from those humble beginnings is what fuels my drive today. I’m doing this without much support, just putting my faith in God who I know is making a way for me everyday. I’ve been taken advantage of, scammed, gone through physically and mentally abusive relationships, and was not too long ago homeless on this journey. I lost everything friends and family included. And I’ve had close family turn against me when all I want is to elevate myself and my family. But I know that God isolates you before he elevates you. I believe in God’s promises to me and I know I’m not just pursuing this dream for me. I’m breaking generational curses and God is doing something through me that no eye or ear has seen or heard in my family tree. I trust Him and I’m staying persistent on my journey because I know it’s worth it and there’s nothing like God’s glory. Put your faith in God and there’s nothing you can’t do or achieve.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
Being a creative for me is the most rewarding experience. I cannot see myself doing anything else in this lifetime. I love to create be it music or art through photo shoots and film. I also love working with other creatives. Every time I’m on a set I meet the best people and have the most amazing time. These creatives become like family to me. I love being in the studio as well. Creating music is so fun to me. The whole experience of writing, listening to beats and recording music and vibing puts me on cloud 9.
