Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Seth Birch. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Seth, thanks for joining us today. Can you talk to us about a project that’s meant a lot to you?
Currently working on a very meaningful project, growing up i was always taught to have this deep respect for nature and the environment. I was also allowed to do whatever I wanted with the crafts supplies. Origami, duct tape wallet and clothing were staples and I remember my childhood friend and I teaching and selling the origami. Now I am working with my best friend to create an art installation that incorporates both origami and the environment. An entire gallery filled with origami Monarchs that you can take down and buy to support a nonprofit that helps the conservation of the species.
Seth, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
For as long as I can remember I have been taking things apart and trying to put them back together. Sometimes i was more successful than others and this cycle grew into an obsession of making things and trying to convey a story. In college I went into it trying to please the family with a major in STEM, but more and more i found little enjoyment in that. Luckily I had been from the start interested in the art department and was encouraged to take the courses. Sophomore year i knew i didn’t want to spend the rest of my life staring at a screen so I took a leap and switched to art fully. Currently I do alot of freelance work as a leather, wood and metal fabricator and work as a photographer. I am most proud of the friends i have made on the way and I am looking forward to working with new and excited clients making what the imagination can dream up.
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
Shop local, buy nice or buy twice is my motto on cheap goods.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Newsletters and books really helped to find opportunities and knowledge.
