We were lucky to catch up with Jennifer Harwood recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jennifer , thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today When did you first know you wanted to pursue a creative/artistic path professionally?
I’ve always gravitated towards artistic expressions. Like a lot of people, when I was younger I use to watch “America’s Next Top Model” in total amazement. I loved all the wild concepts for photoshoots they featured on the show. Then at one point of my life I went through a somewhat difficult period. I wanted to explore a hobby or venture I was interested in to give myself something positive to focus on. I thought about how I’ve always enjoyed modeling, fashion, and beauty from the sidelines, as just a spectator, but why couldn’t I be actually be apart of it?!

Jennifer , before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I basically didn’t know where to start when I made the decision to purse modeling. I just began seeking out local photographers and assisting with project ideas they had as well as got them to work with me on some of my own. I’ve been able to network a good bit since then and have been blessed to work with artists in music videos and clothing brands.
What stands out about me is I break the stereotypical mold for models. I’m actually only 5’2 and wouldn’t be considered for a lot of agency because of that. But I’m proving that beauty comes in many forms.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
I don’t know if I can limit it to just one thing. It’s amazing to be around other creative professionals when working on a project and getting to bounce ideas off each other. It’s rewarding to produce an amazing final product that YOU love AND even more so when other people celebrate it as well.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Be engaged with other creatives and their social medias. Collaborate with new people whose work you appreciate. Use hashtags so people can find you who are interested in those hashtags topics. Beyond that don’t let social media consume you. Don’t do it for the likes. Whether people give you positive feedback or not, make sure YOU are happy about your work. If you do what you love, over time people will take notice.
