We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Shante Griffen. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Shante below.
Alright, Shante thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
I was raised by a single mother and my grandparents. I grew up seeing a woman that worked extremely hard to make sure that i had everything i needed. The most important thing my mother taught me was that nothing in life is going to be easy but as long as you work hard at what you want to accomplish you can do anything. My mother would take me to work with her and she would show me how to enter data into the system and file papers correctly, but most important she showed me how hard work will help you grow in any aspect of your life. My grandmother and my mom showed me how to cook and for me that was a connection that taught me how to work with others and also trust my instincts when it came to seasoning my food and also when bringing people into my life. All of these things have helped me in my business because I’m able to connect with my customers so that they can have a great experience when they are choosing a handbag or accessory.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I’m Shante Griffen a single mother of two amazing kids, and I started my online Boutique during the pandemic as a way of having extra income for my family and also because I love love love handbags and accessories. I wanted to be able to provide woman with great quality and affordable products. I also work hard to let every woman know that they can be Unique in there own way. We are all different and we are all beautiful and that’s why I always state “Be Unique Be You” in everything I do. I sell a variety of handbags different colors, styles, textures you name it I got it. I also sell jewelry, belts, hats, luggage, etc. I strive to make sure that every customer has a great experience and loves the product that they purchase, if they don’t like the item they chose I will send them a gift card or a discount code so that they are able to purchase something else that might better fit them. I feel that my customer service sets me apart from others because I like to make sure that my customers are happy and yes not everyone will be but I definitely try my hardest to make sure that I’ve done everything possible to create a great and positive experience for every customer. I’m most proud of the supporters the people that share my business information or promo on social media, the people that refer new customers to my business. I’m proud of those people because it doesn’t cost anything to share my business information and the fact that they take the time out to do so means everything to me.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Staying humble and building a connection with my customers is what has helped me build my reputation. I strive to build a connection with my customers, because I want them to want to come back and shop. I want my customers to know and feel that I care and appreciate there business. I work hard to be able to answer there questions and help them find products that meet their needs. Sometimes a customer just needs that extra voice of confidence to help them pick a product that will fit their needs.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
I built my audience on social media by consistently promoting my business. I joined several groups that allowed me to promote my business and I engaged with other business owners. No matter how many likes or shares I had I still promoted. There were times where no one liked my post or even engaged but I didn’t let that keep me from promoting my products or my brand. Along with continuous promoting I also started creating ads thru Facebook and I started out doing $5 for one week of paid promo that’s $1 a day for 5 days and I ended up with over 1k views to my business page and started gaining followers on my Facebook and Instagram page. My advice to new business owners is never stop promoting your brand no matter what, because if you don’t put your brand out there no one is going to see it or share it.
