We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Amanda Page Cornett . We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Amanda Page below.
Alright, Amanda thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. One of our favorite things to hear about is stories around the nicest thing someone has done for someone else – what’s the nicest thing someone has ever done for you?
There have been many many kind things I’ve experienced in my life, but I recently had a cool encounter. A random girl, Mia, at Kroger (grocery store) came up to me on a random evening. I was in line, noticed her standing there, but thought she was waiting on someone. She tapped me on the shoulder and I was thinking “oh no… Do I know her and don’t remember her?!” Mia, who was prob in her early 20s, said “My friends and I are doing this random give back thing; may I buy your groceries!?” As someone who is usually the one trying to do nice things, I was so tempted to suggest she find someone more in need. But, over the years, I’ve learned saying no to kindness is stealing a blessing. So, against my nature, I accepted her blessing! It was a really nice reminder that there are genuinely kind, giving people still all around! I promised I would pay it forward. It was a simple act, but it made a great impact!
Amanda, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I’ve been making up music and songs since I could speak, and started writing them down at age 9. After performing my first original song in front of an audience at age 13, I truly felt music was where God wanted me. I grew up listening to mostly country, southern Rock, and blues, but my musical taste is always evolving and growing!
In 2010, I was put together with the sibling trio “The Petersons”. The combo is my music and their great talent melded our music into what it is today, Southern Rock n Soul!
Now called the Almost Angels, the bands is comprised of co producer/guitarist Randall Scott Peterson, bass player Sherry Peterson-Tennille, and drummer Shawn Killen.
We recently were honored to be named 2023 Southern Rock Band of The Year by the Mississippi Music Foundation Awards! I’m very blessed to have this talented group playing music with me!
We’d love to hear a story of resilience from your journey.
In 2013, I had a car wreck coming home from a gig. A young girl blew through a stop sign, so I turned as hard as I could to not t bone her. Since, I’m not a professional racer, I didn’t know to lift my arms off the wheel! So, after the air bag burns and whiplash healed, I ended up experiencing three years of nerve pain in both arms, along with vocal issues. For the arms, I had to relearn how to play guitar without pain, and eventually had double carpal tunnel surgery. The Nashville Guitar Guru, Dave Isaacs, helped me navigate my way through playing again! As for my voice, I found a great ENT who sent me to voice therapy and eventually to my amazing “voice angel” coach Liz Johnson to regain my voice plus some! Though none of that was fun, the experience forced me to really evaluate who I am as a musician and what my goals are. I got back to truly making music that I believe in and my band, the Almost Angels and I, ended up recording the Front Porch Rebel album down at NuttHouse Recording Studio in the Muscle Shoals area.
The hard, grueling recovery truly made me so much more grateful for my talents, and through great coaches, made me a much better musician!
What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
I love using 2020 to answer this question! So many take music, art, TV, film, and other creative works for granted. I like to ask people what 2020 would have been like without these forms of available entertainment! Everyone I’ve asked has considered the value of creative works! With that in mind,I encourage everyone to buy music from the artists you like, pay for your streaming, buy merch from artists you enjoy! That is the only way creatives can continue being creative! We are passionate about our talents, but we still have to eat and pay bills!
