We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Megan Wing. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Megan below.
Megan, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. Too often the media represents innovation as something magical that only high-flying tech billionaires and upstarts engage in – but the truth is almost every business owner has to regularly innovate in small and big ways in order for their businesses to survive and thrive. Can you share a story that highlights something innovative you’ve done over the course of your career?
Within my business, I actually started a remote coaching business as a side hustle while I was teaching elementary school full-time. When I was starting that business it felt like an extension of my true passion that played to my unique gifts and talents and I think for so many of us that’s why businesses have become such amazing ways to bring our contribution into the world! However, I think that most people who are working full-time while trying to start a business get really overwhelmed and don’t have enough time to get things done and that’s where systems come into play! The biggest innovation I had to make and now what I teach others is how to create automaticity and clear operations so everything in your business flows seamlessly and gets done in a way shorter period of time. Those systems are what’s given me the opportunity to leave my job and one of the reasons I think my business was so successful last year within my first year full-time!
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Megan Wing and I started Six-Figure Systems because I wanted to help other entrepreneurs create businesses that felt simple and efficient while reaching their goals! I had started a life coaching business myself and figured out that running a business was WAY more simple than it appeared. I saw so many other people who had these amazing ideas and wanted to help make their business run as easily as mine had and that’s why I switched to business coaching last year.
I’m really proud of tripling my teaching salary in my first year full-time last year! I feel like I know if I could create that amount of success without any prior business experience, I know I can help other people do the same!
I think that if anyone is thinking of creating a business I think it’s one of the most fulfilling career paths because it gives you the freedom to truly express yourself and will help you grow in ways you never even imagined! Looking back at the legacy we want to leave on the world if you’re feeling called to do something that’s different when you think about your contribution to the world I think building a business is a great place to start!
What else should we know about how you took your side hustle and scaled it up into what it is today?
Yes! So I was a teacher and received life coaching for a full year before the pandemic hit, it had truly changed my life in every possible way that I could imagine but I never thought I would have a business myself. When the pandemic hit it really made me think about the future and when my coach asked me where I see myself in 10 years I realized I wanted to be working from home with the flexibility to be with the children I would hopefully have. Since teaching didn’t offer that flexibility I decided to start a coaching business of my own! That first and second year I learned SO much about running a business and went through so many growing pains that I knew I could help other people avoid, so I decided to switch from general life/ career coaching to business coaching and hit over $100k in my first year! I knew that if I could do it this was fully capable for anyone and everyone else who wanted to make that journey on their own too!
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I would highly recommend that you market your business on social media, making yourself stand out by thinking about the things that you can guarantee or be known for in your industry! I call those things your pillars and to create momentum for your business I would suggest talking about one of those pillars weekly so people start to know, like, and trust your business as a source to deliver all of those services! Creating that piece of mind for people you’ll develop name-brand recognition and people will start to refer you to people who could be a good fit for you!
