Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Filippe Art . We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Filippe , thanks for joining us today. So, let’s start with a hypothetical – what would you change about the educational system?
Well, actually I already changed! In my area, which is tattooing, many people spend years just learning the theory part and I already choose to teach my students a lot of practice so that they feel and train as much as possible on artificial skin. Another very important point and worth remembering is that I also include another part in my teaching schedule, which is about customer service. It is very important to pass on how the job market works to the students, so that they understand and enter already knowing the most important points for them to be successful in the journey.

Filippe , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, I come from a humble family and have always been drawn to art since my childhood. I used to draw and paint. In my teenage years, I even graffitied some walls with artistic designs and pursued graphic design in college. After working various jobs and going through a very difficult time in my life, I decided that I had to do something I loved and would be willing to do for hours with satisfaction. That’s when tattooing appeared as a gift from God during this challenging time in my life.
Many friends who had been following my drawings and art encouraged me, saying that I would be a good tattoo artist and that if I needed someone to train with, they would support me. In 2013, everything began in my hometown in Brazil, a city with approximately 800,000 inhabitants. I was 23 years old and had a dream, to become a tattoo artist! I saved money and bought my first equipment, which was quite basic but affordable for me. Despite the poor quality of the equipment, it didn’t discourage me. I started tattooing myself and my friends every day! That’s how it all began.
Today, after 10 years in the tattoo industry, I have won several awards. I am the lead tattoo artist at Baruc Tattoo Studio in Los Angeles, CA. I am also a mentor and have trained and introduced many students to the tattoo market! I am known by my clients for creating unique designs based on their stories. I transform their stories into art, and together, we immortalize it on their skin in my VIP room, where we provide excellent service, including champagne, to make their day extra special.
My students know me as a teacher who teaches in a simple and straightforward manner, showing practical knowledge about everything you need to know to enter the tattoo market. I started mentoring and teaching classes only 4 years ago, and after seeing so many lives transformed and people working in the tattoo industry, it is as fulfilling as creating art based on stories for my clients. The smiles and satisfaction on their faces are what make me feel complete.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
My best way to get clients is online, I’ve always used and continue to use Instagram as my main means of publicizing my work and serving my clients.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
The first and most important thing in my area and the main thing is to have quality work to have a portfolio that pleases people! With that in mind, all the work is done with online advertisements, videos, photos, sponsorship of posts on Instagram and Facebook, for example!
