We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Jason Frierson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Jason, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
I would say that being successful to me means that you are quick to learn and change with the times. I feel that most people (and companies) get stuck in what they are used to and fail to realize that while they are stuck to the normal routine, things are changing. Rather its how people work, shopping and even visiting stores and getting entertainment. To be successful you have to learn the new technology, understand your customer base and the competition as well as not be afraid to embrace the change. To me that is the number one way to be successful in this ever changing world.
Jason, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I am what people now call a content creator on YouTube and Spotify as well as Instagram. I do photography mostly and create content for my brands YouTube channels (The JW Show and World’s Collide). I would say as far as problems go, they would be basically finding the right content to create/post and making sure that it generates the views and interactions. While for photography, problems on that would mainly be finding that perfect shot which as well all know doesn’t always happen! Both of these problems are simple and easy to fix if you listen to trends that are currently going on. The thing that makes me proud about my brand/company is that it gets the recognition from my peers and my content on YouTube continues to get a new audience which to me is a huge milestone!
Can you tell us the story behind how you met your business partner?
How I met my business partner? Me and my business partner met while doing some other things such as streaming our gaming sessions (Xbox and PlayStation via Twitch) and just based off the interactions between our viewers and our chemistry we decided to join forces and combine our ideas into something that actually showcase our strengths together as well as provide entertainment to people when they needed it most (started our business in 2020 during the heart of the pandemic). We both love video games and telling stories that people can not only relate to but also escape reality when they need to.
Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?
I would say my advice to managing a team and keeping high morale is that you have to listen to your team. If they voice concerns about something you have to listen to make sure that those concerns are addressed in a timely manner. Also being able to stay current with the changing work environment to make sure that you are putting your team first and listening because if you don’t listen to your team you will have low morale and a high turnover.
