We were lucky to catch up with Jasmine Young recently and have shared our conversation below.
Jasmine , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Before we get into specifics, let’s talk about success more generally. What do you think it takes to be successful?
In order to be successful I believe takes a lot of self-discipline, a clear vision on your overall goal, being open to accept constructive criticism, and confidence to know that you will get there whether it takes 1 year or the next 5 years.
I have been in business for 3 years, although my business has flourished I still have those success key elements in mind and know that the overall vision I have for it will come to life, it’s just going to take a little more time.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
My name is Jasmine, I am a wife to my loving husband and mom to two beautiful little girls. How I got into the nail industry, for as long as I can remember I have had a nail obsession and would pay really close attention to nail prep and nail application during my nail appointments, along with asking questions. During the beginning of COVID-19 a really great friend, as well as my personal nail tech, gave me the idea to start with press ons first because let’s be real applying acrylic was a lot more complicated than it looked (lol). There was also a high demand for press ons during this time since a lot of people didn’t feel comfortable going out unless necessary due to the spread of the virus.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
How I built our audience on social media I will say is mainly by using hashtags to reach our target audience. Also, posting on a consistent basis also helped to grow our audience. I’m a firm believer that likes do not matter, repetition does. I am sometimes shocked by how many people tag me to press on nails posts. I’m honestly honored when anyone thinks to even tag me, like the saying goes you never know who’s watching.
To anyone building a social media presence I would say show up for your business daily, be your own model, editor, and whatever else it takes. Get out of your own way and post your business and/or products.

Learning and unlearning are both critical parts of growth – can you share a story of a time when you had to unlearn a lesson?
One of the biggest lessons I believe that all small business owners have had to learn is that your family and friends will not always be your target market. Yes, they will support you because they love you and are beyond proud of you but don’t always be quick to assume they are apart of that target audience you are trying to reach.
