We were lucky to catch up with C.J. Stussi recently and have shared our conversation below.
C.J., thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. So let’s jump to your mission – what’s the backstory behind how you developed the mission that drives your brand?
I am the creator of a film trilogy that I cannot wait to get into distributor’s hands and my mission is to see that message be told again and again. Here’s why:
I like to create fun & thought-provoking entertainment in all of my businesses – be it as an actress, filmmaker or entertainment attorney. Where Hollywood produces movies “en masse” – I like to take my time to create iconic films which raise deeper questions and spark conversation and curiosity.
It all started with my beloved grandpa who was a student and friend of the late philosopher Karl Jaspers – he created a wonderland where everything was up for questioning, but answers were like a hide-and-seek game. We had a blast with mental acrobatics, spending countless warm & fuzzy hours pondering the mysteries of the universe. It was a creative platform of thought – no rulebooks, just endless possibilities.
It’s part of my legacy to continue that tradition which bridges differences and creates understanding for each other.
C.J., love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Well, if you need help with a contract, I’m a practicing entertainment attorney and know the ins and outs of that special trying moment. And when I’m not helping my clients navigate their content, I’m a filmmaker in Los Angeles with 30+ years international experience in the movie industry.
My career started at age 3 in Germany when I booked a commercial and I have worked since as an actress internationally. This dual capacity on set and as an attorney turns me into some sort of a unicorn in the industry – but helps to get clients, and provide safe & hands-on solutions.
I’m extremely proud of my three latest projects “Allured”, “TechMood”, and “Nameless”.
“Allured” is a fun film trilogy filled with Greek Gods, enchanted AI, and naive humans. It’s like “Thor: Love & Thunder” meets “Free Guy”. We’ve already won over 20 Best Screenplay Awards and are currently seeking more investors, distributors, and a literary agent.
The theme of digital technology – and how it influences our lives and relationships – is such a major and fast-changing topic, that we elaborate it also in the form of a blog series over a longer period of time in line with the latest developments. That blog series is called “TechMood” for which we are currently seeking investors.
“Nameless” is an award winning, educational film which deals with the theme identity and sense of self. It’s based on true events in my own life and was produced in consultation with psychologist and bestselling author Dr. George Simon Ph.D. “Nameless” is used as an educational resource by schools and colleges around the world.
Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
That would be now. Life’s a wild juggling act! I’m a legal eagle by day, a production wizard by noon, and a scene-stealing actress by night. But as AI is on everyone’s mind, the relevance and importance of my projects, “Allured” and “TechMood,” has urged me to take them center stage while maintaining my diverse professional portfolio.
Thus, it’s time for a business makeover! With a touch of AI magic, I’m harnessing synergies to run my businesses more efficiently.
I’ve realized that my solo endeavors can only take me so far. In order to unlock the next level, I need strong and like-minded collaborators.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
I love collaboration so I’m always looking for my next partner. I find that I produce my best work when we can create together. So, if you’re reading this and you’re a distributor/investor/literary agent or fellow filmmaker, please don’t hesitate to reach out!
My production company Cassiel Cinema has formed international co-productions in Portugal with renowned Scape Goat Inc. – member of the Word Experience Organization for immersive experiences, Inaissance Studios, and collaborates with AVE van Essel Agency – a leading media and publishing agency in Switzerland with 20+ years’ experience with international projects.
I met my Portuguese business partner, Flávia Carvalho, during our student days at the Lee Strasberg Institute. Our love for the silver screen and aligned artistic vision sparked a cinematic bond. I knew right away that she was the kind of person I could work with as we also have similar work ethics.
I crossed paths with my Swiss business partner, Zeno Van Essel, back when I called Switzerland home. Originally, he had booked me as a model for some of his projects. I immediately recognized his talent and made sure he recognized mine to :-).
As a director, I was coached by my late friend and mentor Monte Hellman and I have been co-directing with Light Touch Dreams Studios’ owner Heide Fliegner. We met on set and clicked instantly, discovering our similar and unique approach to directing.
In my law practice, I have forged collaborations with other attorneys, providing clients with a one-stop haven for all their legal needs.
Scouting for talent is like a thrilling treasure hunt, always on the quest for that hidden pearl. When personalities and needs align, it’s nothing short of magic – a challenge definitely worth pursuing!
