Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Romeo Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Romeo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today It’s always helpful to hear about times when someone’s had to take a risk – how did they think through the decision, why did they take the risk, and what ended up happening. We’d love to hear about a risk you’ve taken.
Growing up I have always been the risk taker of the family so I grasped the idea of consequences very early on. I have incurred many scars and bruises from jumping off of things and pushing the limits. I recall a time that I failed to mention that I could not swim but wanted to be with all of my friends at the pool at the after school program. While sitting on the edge of the pool someone ran by and pushed me in and the lifeguard had to pull me out. To this day I don’t trust people running around by a pool and I still am not comfortable in the water.
Romeo, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I became an author after a breakthrough in therapy. We spoke about what I saw for my future self and what I believed was stopping me from obtaining it. The answer was self-doubt. After formulating a plan of action I began to slowly gain more confidence in my weakest areas. Some time passed and my fortieth birthday, which was my goal date was approaching and she reminded me about what I said. “I want to write a book by the time I’m forty” For the next few weeks I went into super focused mode and finally had something that I took pride in. My first book was published on September 25th 2019 and has easily been the most proud I have been and had opened the floodgates of challenges ever since.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The biggest lesson for me would be my redefining my definition of success. I have learned about how much power there is in the journey. Understanding that the act of doing is a major part of success and that the outcome is simply the result of consistent effort. I was placing too much emphasis on the end goal and not appreciating all the knowledge that was within failing.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
I have so many dreams and ideas that I am looking forward to seeing how I can bring them to light. Whether it’s painting, writing or creating content my mind is constantly flowing.
