We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Percy Chalmers Jr a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Percy, appreciate you joining us today. What do you think matters most in terms of achieving success?
What I think it takes to be successful is to never give up! Being consistent & patient & trust in the LORD because as you continue to work to get better it’s not going to come over night but it’s going to come on time but not on our time or the way we may think it should come! Always go after your plan A you may have to pivot but continuing to go after your dreams!

Percy, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I have always loved cooking growing up watching my mom & grandma cook! Then watching Chef Bobby Flay & Emeril Lagasse on food network! I always knew I wanted to be a Chef! I love seeing people faces when they eat my food and it’s good to them! I always try to give others something I would want! Percy P Plates primarily engages in providing single event-based food services & bartending services! Events we cater are banquet halls, graduation parties, wedding receptions, business or retirement luncheons, and trade shows. We also specialize in breakfasts & lunches for work meetings! Also we provide some private meals as well! We provide healthy meal prep meals as well!
A couple of my proudest moments I have catered for University of Memphis Student Homecoming Tailgate 3 years in a row feeding 200-400 Students & Alumni!
Then last year I got to cook for B. Simone, rapper Bow Wow, & singer Sammie!
As I continue to grow I want my customers & future customers know we are only going to get better! You come to PERCY P PLATES TO TREAT YOURSELF NOT TO CHEAT YOURSELF!!

Can you share a story from your journey that illustrates your resilience?
During this journey I have had to deal with battles of my health. I had to take months off at a time battling with blood issues. From 2020-2021 I had to have 6-8 blood transfusions & that’s very rare! But over the pass couple years I have gotten stronger & work more on & inside of my Business! Through those couple years of battling my health I always come back stronger than ever! I thank GOD for his Grace & Mercy!

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
I grew my reputation when I put pictures of my food on twitter got a thousand shares & likes! Then on Facebook one of my earlier plates got 800 shares! Then after that customers started to try my food & me being consistent & getting better every year since I started has helped my reputation! I threw parties in college as well so more people could taste my food! Now graduating college & going to culinary school & now being a certified Chef has helped me even more!
