We recently connected with Anna Gygi and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anna, thanks for joining us today. Do you think your parents have had a meaningful impact on you and your journey?
My parents always supported my dreams. Major things to small things. When I first started my makeup journey my parents were my biggest support system. My mom was actually the one who went with me to buy all my makeup for the first time. She encouraged (and still does) my bold, out there looks. She would help me take the photos for my makeup looks too when I first started. My father would help me come up with ideas for looks and still continues today. They still encourage and cheer me in what I do. The big and little things. Making so I always know I can turn to them in any situation; big or small.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I am a personal makeup artist. Meaning I only do makeup on my own face and publicly share it all online. Makeup has always been something I’ve been interested in. Dressing up and doing costume makeup from the time I was little with the children’s makeup. Which leads me to where I am now.
Art has always been something I’ve been passionate about. Growing up my father was and is a very phenomenal artist. He taught me the foundational skills that I still utilize today. When the pandemic occurred I shifted my art from digital and traditional to makeup art. As the years continue to pass by my style has continued to grow with me.
When art got hard and moments when I felt burned out and confused on what style suited me. I pressed on and took the necessary steps to center myself and build again. Which has lead me to where I am today and I’m extremely proud of myself for never giving up.
At the end of the day I’m a mother who like everyone has a passion. A passion I want to show my children so they understand that life is beautiful in its own way. That no matter what path you take as long you’re happy it’s the best path.

Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
As silly as it may sound YouTube videos has significantly impacted me. Watching the video tutorials of makeup artists who have been doing it for years teaching and showcasing techniques. Spending hours upon end with lots of trial and error following their steps to continuously improve the skill set I was and am growing. Even now that is something that continuously impacts me for the better.

Putting training and knowledge aside, what else do you think really matters in terms of succeeding in your field?
Supporting one another is the biggest thing in the art industry. We wouldn’t get far without one another’s support.
