We recently connected with Jordan D and have shared our conversation below.
Jordan , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. What do you think it takes to be successful?
Passion! I feel that passion is the driving force behind everything successful. It’s what wakes you up and keeps you going. Things happen and set backs come, but if you truly love what you do it will keep you pushing.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers
I started creating art at a very young age and enjoyed expressing myself. It wasn’t until I was 25 that I found embroidery. It was then that I found what felt like home to myself. Using classic hand embroidery with a modern twist, I create one of a kind pieces that are sure to stand out. What started out as a fun hobby quickly turned into an obsession. Embroidery has been a fun way to explore various styles with bold lines, beautiful color combos, and even the love of all things spooky!
Along with my love of embroidery, I have continued to explore other forms of art to share with the world such as stickers, pins, keychains, apparel, post cards, and so much more.
As well as artwork, workshops is another fun endeavor I really enjoy. To share this form or art with others is truly a favorite of mine.
Keep an eye out, there’s more to come.
We often hear about learning lessons – but just as important is unlearning lessons. Have you ever had to unlearn a lesson?
The lesson I had to unlearn would be being shy. I have never wanted eyes on myself and actively avoided being seen. As a new artist showing my art to others was just and unnerving to me. Art is a very personal and unique way someone expresses them selfs, and to allow others to view was very intimidating. But I had to push past that! Asking my first venue for a pop up event was a huge step for myself and found nothing but wonderful people! Even when I hear “no” or “not at this time” it’s ok, I just push pass that and trust it was for the best, but I am no longer that shy artist hiding away.
How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Honesty and flexibility! I adore the wonderful people I have had the pleasure to work with. At art events, markers, workshops, and even retail spots I have always been honest and flexible! I love what I do and this makes it very easy to adapt to what’s needed from myself.
