We were lucky to catch up with Milo Estevez recently and have shared our conversation below.
Milo, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you open up about a risk you’ve taken – what it was like taking that risk, why you took the risk and how it turned out?
I’m not a risk taker at all, at least that’s not who I was. I tend to be more analytical to calculate to the best of my ability my next move…big or small. With that being said, I’ve always tried to “play it safe” in my professional career. Following the idea of having a stable job with a decent salary and benefits all while doing something I enjoy to climb the corporate ladder, you know?
But as cliche as all this may sound, the COVID-19 pandemic taught and showed me that to live the life I truly wanted I needed to take risks and bet on myself. Why would anyone take the risk and bet on me, if I didn’t do so on myself? So in April 2020, I created and launched “Milo Estevez” my business and personal brand as a travel content creator.
You see, as a kid I always dreamed of having a job that would allow me to travel the world. And just for the record, there are plenty of jobs out there that will allow you to do that. But for some reason, none of them sparked my interest as content creation and filmmaking did.
Fast forward to late 2022, I was working full-time as a Social Media Coordinator & Content Creator for a company in Miami, and my spare time was fully dedicated to my business and personal brand “Milo Estevez.” Everything seemed to be going well, at least on the outside. Because on the inside, I was having an internal battle with the idea of why am I dedicating and investing so much time into someone else’s company. But my rational and analytical self would turn those thoughts and feelings off. Eventually, a feeling of emptiness and a lack of motivation to perform my full-time job took over me and left me feeling unfulfilled.
After lots of thinking and long conversations with my family and my boss at the time, I decided that it was time to take the risk and bet all on myself and my business. So I resigned from my full-time job earlier this year, and decided to focus and invest 100% of my time in growing “Milo Estevez.”
It hasn’t been easy, and I’m still riding the risk wave. But so far I’ve had the honor to work on projects with clients like “Red Bull” and events like “Preakness Stakes 2023.”
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
My name is Camilo Estevez, but my friends call me “Milo,” and this is where the name of my business and personal brand as a travel content creator comes from. I graduated from Florida International University in 2017, and during my college career, I took a multimedia production class that taught me the basics of video editing and storytelling.
After I graduated from college, I went on to work for well known all-inclusive resort company, and this is pretty much where my idea for “Milo Estevez” was born. I was constantly traveling and seeing first-hand how travel companies worked with travel influencers and content creators. I realized I could do the same work, if not better, as these travel content creators were doing for different travel brands.
So in 2020 I created and launched my YouTube channel “Milo Estevez” where I share my travel experiences and what it is like to live in a city like Miami. Yet, my passion for storytelling motivated me to keep on learning and mastering my craft, and I invested in video editing, photography, and drone flying courses.
Today, I am an FAA Part 107 Licensed Drone Pilot, travel content creator, filmmaker, and video editor. I’ve had the honor to work on diverse projects with companies like Drone Nerds, Red Bull, DeepSleep Studios, Bon Yurt, Bingo Players, and the Clevelander South Beach Hotel.
I think what sets me apart from other “travel content creators” is the fact that I try to go beyond a cinematic montage. As I just mentioned, I love to tell stories, so I work hard to inform my audience about the places I go to.
I’m proud of the experiences I’ve had and the work produced while working with the brands mentioned above. But I’m most proud of the work I have produced for my YouTube channel and the places “Milo Estevez” has taken me to. Incredible places like traveling to Mexico, Aruba, Italy, Spain, and Switzerland to name a few.
I’m proud of having a video with over 45K views, a channel that has generated over 2.5M impressions and gained over 225K views. It’s a small, but mighty YouTube channel.

How did you build your audience on social media?
I’d like to start by acknowledging that growing a social media audience and building a digital presence is not easy. It takes a lot of time, energy, skill, and creativity. But above all, the number one thing it takes is consistency.
Going viral or making something go viral nowadays isn’t as hard as people think, the hard thing is to keep that momentum going. Many people see building a social media audience as a sprint when in reality it is a marathon. My social media audience is nowhere near where I’d like it to be, and to be honest, I don’t think it will ever be because of this reason.
I started building a social media audience by first defining what I wanted to show, tell, and ultimately leave my audience with. After all, we follow other accounts because they provide us with something in return for that follow, such as inspiration, entertainment, information, etc.
Once I knew that I wanted to share my travel experiences along with travel tips and hacks, all I had to do was to produce content around those ideas and niches. To produce that content, I needed to get rid of the fear of putting myself “out there,” while learning how to perfect my craft with online courses, and my favorite…the YouTube University. Lastly, I started posting the content consistently, and eventually, my social pages began to grow.
My last piece of advice for those starting out is to be smart and objective with the negative comments you receive from others in the social media world. Take the good and ignore the bad in those. Use constructive criticism from others to learn about what you could’ve done better and grow. Ignore all others, they’re not worth your time.

For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Without a doubt, the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is sharing my craft with others on a global scale. Thanks to the power of social media we’re all connected, and this gives us the possibility of sharing things with people on the other side of the planet instantly, or almost instantly…this blows my mind, and motivates me to keep putting my best work out there.
Since most of my creative work is video or photo-based, I’m constantly creating pieces that allow me to travel back in time. I personally find that very rewarding as I can always relieve those memories through my photographs and videos.
