Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to RoseMarie Lewis. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
RoseMarie, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today So, let’s start with trends – what are some of the largest or more impactful trends you are seeing in the industry?
Some of the biggest trends I’m seeing in the crochet industry is crochet swimwear, dresses and as always granny squares. Crochet is always trending. It’s something that will never really go out of trend. My concerns are big companies taking designs from the smaller designers and mass producing the items. I’ve seen it done with my designs. They change one thing about the look and they can say it’s different. I’ve noticed crochet swimwear gaining popularity because of designers like myself. Sometimes I push the boundaries of crochet because it needs to be pushed. I would love to see crochet designers show off their skills without using a pattern or making an exact copy of another crochet designers work.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hey!! I’m RoseMarie Lewis, Owner of Yubehandmade and Yube Yarn Collection. I’m a Fiber Artist/Crochet Fashion Designer, wife, and mother of six. My line is full of Sexy Eye poppin Swim and resort wear.
Pulling from my nearly 23 years of design experience as a freehand crochet designer, I’ve been featured in ELLE Magazine, Fashion Style weekly and many more.
In 2022, I presented Yubehandmade during Miami Swim Week and invited to Paris Fashion Week as one of the Designers to watch.
In June, I’ll be a featured designers during Michigan Fashion Week and Miami Swim Week in July 2023.
Yubehandmade is a timeless crochet swimwear brand launched in 1999. Yubehandmade is a highly acclaimed brand that upholds its status in the crochet community. Some looks are sexy and form fitting, as well as slightly loose with a comfortable fit. It would be a great idea to wear Yubehandmade to the pool. We add a fun splash to your summer wardrobe that can be enjoyed for years to come.
I started crocheting because I wanted to make a scarf to match my sons snowsuit. I made the entire scarf on the same day I learned the skill. My grandma thought me and she couldn’t believe it.
I got into this industry because I love fashion and crochet. I couldn’t stop once I got started. I think it was seeing the finished product of what I did. It so satisfying. The problems I solve for my clients is being able to customize swimwear for them. I think what sets me apart from others is that I love doing fashion shows and showing my work to the world. I’m a freehand crochet designer so I think that will always me apart from others. I create my own designs. I’m most proud of my ability to stay consistent in this business for 23years. To stay up to date with with fashion trends not just crochet trends. I want potential clients to know that Yubehandmade is an experience, wearing my crochet swimwear and clothing always gets extra attention. You’ll for sure be the Beyoncé of the pool or beach party.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe being consistent has helped me build my business.
How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
During the pandemic, I went from making bikinis for the upcoming spring break, to making crochet mask with pockets for filters. I was a crazy time because you couldn’t get mask anywhere!
