Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Elaine hensley & Scott Moore Art Dogs Props. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Alright, Elaine hensley & Scott Moore thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start big picture – what are some of biggest trends you are seeing in your industry?
Nashville,Tennessee is now the fifth largest production hub in the United States. Beyond Music Videos, ( obvious for the music industry here) Nashville production is bustling with commercials, films, documentary production still photo shoots and live music events. Our business recognizes the need for beautiful furnishings and sometimes quirky prop pieces to make these creative visions come to life. Art Dogs Props often provides a “one stop shop” to fulfill all the needs for a project. Along with our prop rentals, Art Dogs Props provides knowledge and over 25 years experience as production creatives. We are always surprised to hear “I didn’t know your prop house existed” when we have been offering services for many years. Creating a new and thorough website has been a huge step forward as well as using the social media platforms, especially INSTAGRAM to generate buzz and capture interest for new clients.
As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
As business partners our parallel backgrounds brought us together from retail visual merchandising, We had both been working with major retailers, dressing manikins, setting store window displays, planning fashion shows and tabletop displays. I leaped into the film production arena and Scott followed a few years later. This allowed us to use our skills and put them now in front of a camera. We became partners working together as”set decorators”,” prop masters” and “art directors” as designated titles in filming video work. In the days before cel phones, instant shopping we scoured thrift shops, estate sales and flea markets to find specific props and started our curated collection. In the beginning we were collection for our own projects and eventually started renting props to others in the film community. Thus, Art dogs Props was born. Here’s a little resume information on each of us.

We provide clients with first hand knowledge of “Why Props Matter”.
Can you tell us about what’s worked well for you in terms of growing your clientele?
Investing in a professionally designed website with thousands of prop photographs has been a huge boost in attracting new clients. Our website lists prop categories and a search bar so that a specific item can be easily located. We update constantly as we acquire new items. We carefully categorized the props into familiar and often used subjects, including “Nashville Vibe”. Often out of. town events want a “photo space’ for social media when they are in town. this category groups items that are fun and representative of Nashville… Honky Tonk neon, guitars, cowboy signs, lighted marquee “Music city” are a few favorites. We also remain available by phone and often send photo suggestions to potential clients individually.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
Our reputations were built through our work on set as prop stylists. We had already accumulated a wide selection of props for our own projects and production companies knew we were always reliable. When we formed Art Dogs Props both Scott and I had already established ourselves in film-video production for many years and we were trusted to provide props and services as a rental business.
