We recently connected with Christopher Hall and have shared our conversation below.
Christopher, appreciate you joining us today. Can you recount a story of an unexpected problem you’ve faced along the way?
When I first started Miss Nature, LLC I wanted to still give back to the community in which I am a part of (LGBTQ+). In 2022, we were able to raise over $30,000 because of the Arizona Pride Tour (A registered event of Miss Nature, LLC). After paying fees for the venues, promoting the event online, promoting the event across the state, providing entertainers with hotels as the amount donated by sponsor didn’t completely cover the cost, we were able to write a check to Girl Scouts of Southern Arizona for more than $14,000. When it came time to pay taxes, we had to pay taxes on all money raised as the IRS saw the $30,000+ as income earned.
We quickly realized that we are a for-profit entity and cannot conduct business as if a nonprofit. We had to change our business model so that we could still raise money for the community. We now host events for charity and reserve a small amount from each event with the expectation that we will have to pay taxes on all “money earned”.
There is the ability to run a for profit and still give back to communities that mean a lot to you. I would recommend that this be how a business starts because not everyone will understand why you made the business decisions that you did and more damage control may occur than is needed should you start off right.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Miss Nature, LLC is a for profit entity that provides both education and entertainment. Our focus is primarily rural areas of Arizona with an emphasis on non-traditional families. We work with already existing nonprofit organizations and provide resources and services to underserved areas of Arizona through partnerships.
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
I have been involved in the community for more than 16 years. Often times, people look at the success that has been achieved and believe that it happened overnight or that little to no work went into the brand that now is Miss Nature, LLC. That couldn’t be farther from the truth as countless hours have gone into who it is Miss Nature is today and the brand she has been able to create for self.
I believe that one must be fully invested and believe in themselves and their product before they are able to get others to invest in them. If someone sees that you are not truly invested, it becomes easy to not invest in your brand for them as well. Make sure you are fully invested before trying to convince others because it will be obvious.
When possible, spend some money on your brand. Visit your finances regularly and develop a system that works for you. Study trends and make decisions based on the trends you see.
See your audience as more than a number. While it is impossible to be friends with everyone who supports you, be personable when possible. For me, I try to have occasional dinners with others, go on outings with others and make myself available for others when possible.
Utilize free markets that exist. Try to think what social groups will allow you to post free of charge. Think of the networks you have. Remember every interaction you have is always an opportunity to network (gather more support, collaborate with others, etc.)
Try to think what separates you from others who have a similar brand. Don’t just speak it but have the difference be seen and felt by your customers.
Finally, do not be afraid of pushing the envelope. I am a firm believer that there is no such thing as bad press. Take risks. If the risk doesn’t work, learn from it and take another risk until you find what works for you.
Any thoughts, advice, or strategies you can share for fostering brand loyalty?
We focus primarily on rural communities with little to no LGBTQ+ representation. While we produce events that often garner a lot of attention, we provide a sense of community and try and show communities we are there beyond a single day production. We do not do a single event that simply generates revenue for our company and then leave a community high and dry. We try to partner with others and use our platform to give other groups an opportunity to showcase themselves and the services they provide. We often stay in the communities we travel to and work on ways to bring communities together with the intent of having an ever-lasting impact.
