We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Shanaillion Thompson a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Shanaillion, thanks for joining us today. Can you share a story about the kindest thing someone has done for you and why it mattered so much or was so meaningful to you?
So my very first project… I was totally new to it all. I started recording with this guy, who was producing as well as helping me write the songs. I was working but wasn’t able to afford to finish the project. The guy had been sharing the progress with some of his fitness clients. Well a lady name Debbie asked him how the project was coming along and he told her we were at a pause do to finances. She left the gym, and called him and told him God told her to pay for the remainder of the cost for the project. I hadn’t met this lady a day in my life. Fortunately her and her husband came to the cd release party and I was able to thank them in person!
Shanaillion, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am a creative prophetic artist. God has given me a to create for what shall be. I am a stylist who specializes in styling clients who want to rebrand or reintroduce themselves with a new look. I am also an gospel/Christian artist who sings, write music. Released a new song & music video called Lover Of My Soul last summer and releasing a new album soon produced by my amazing husband Jamiene JSkills Thompson. I am proud of me pressing past pain and shame, I’ve been trusted with some challenging things but God has carried and still carrying me through it all. I’d love to connect with you via IG at @iamshanillion or facebook Shanaillion Thompson.
Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
Definitely..,non-creative I feel struggle to see through the lens of a creative. Me personally I am a visionary, I can see a idea, look, decor before it’s an actual thing and I bless God for it. But it’s a bittersweet situation when I have non-creatives on my team because sometimes it’s difficult for us to agree. But I believe that the 2 could compliment one another if they embrace the differences and use them to an advantage
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
I had to unlearn, to learn the fact that life is not always good…but your perspective determines your outcome.
Being a stylist, you run into many unforeseen situations and you have to know how to like my mama would say “use what you got” this is something that I taken into my own day to day life
