We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful London Lang, M.S., CCC-SLP. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with London below.
Hi London, thanks for joining us today. We’re complete cheeseballs and so we love asking folks to share the most heartwarming moment from their career – do you have a touching moment you can share with us?
Some of the most heartwarming experiences as a speech-language pathologist are watching children successfully communicate with others, witnessing progress in sessions, and seeing all forms of communication honored. For example, I’ve witnessed children with language delays and disorders successfully tell their parents, “I love you,” following speech therapy sessions. I’ve seen the delight in parents’ faces when a child uses their first word consistently. I have seen children successfully use signs like “mama,” “dada,” or “milk” to communicate when spoken language is still emerging. I’ve had the pleasure of witnessing children use alternative communication, such as pointing to a picture to request wants and needs when they were unable to do so the week prior. We connect through communication, and watching little ones begin to make life-long connections and bond with those they love brings me so much joy.
London, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
My name is London Lang. I am a speech-language pathologist, founder of Mindful Speech & Wellness, and mother of two little ones. I serve individuals of all ages and families in the community with communication and swallowing concerns. Services offered include consultations, coaching, interactive playgroups, screenings, evaluations, and treatment. Through my practice, I help others become mindful of communication and swallowing by providing treatment, techniques, and resources to increase successful connection with others and overall wellness.
If you could go back in time, do you think you would have chosen a different profession or specialty?
I would absolutely choose the same profession. I have thought about this a few times due to how many years it takes to become a speech-language pathologist, but I wouldn’t change my profession for the world. I was meant for this role, and this role was meant for me. I am genuinely passionate about what I do and enjoy helping others.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I strongly believe that if you love what you do and lead with passion, people will feel that energy and will ultimately gravitate toward it. If you think of any interaction you have had with any professional, the ones who truly care about what they do tend to make the most of an impact. My reputation has been built on the value that I place on connecting with and supporting others.
