We were lucky to catch up with Linterria Drummer recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Linterria thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Who is your hero and why? What lessons have you learned from them and how have they influenced your journey?
I’m not able to specifically name 1 hero I have plenty God, Family, Fiancée and Chefs. God give me wisdom and pushes me to do better than what I did last time. Growing up with a big family who knows how to prepare and season meals deliciously is good. I would have extra portions and take it to my associates so they could try, therefore they loved those meals and desserts. They would always ask “ Can you bring me some tomorrow ?” . I love when people compliment on my family food. Therefore I wanted to make people smile and always remember my food/ desserts. My Fiancée graduated with his Associates Degree in Culinary, his cooking/ knife skills is amazing. He gives me pointers on how to do food/ desserts a different way. The Chefs at AiA want us to go by recipe but some Chefs want us to spruce your dish up. I started cooking/ baking more at home and notice what I was doing wrong and right. I want to thank everyone in my life who reached out and helped me through this journey.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Hello. I am Linterria Drummer. Owner of Lin’s Sweet Treats. Being creative is very important and fun. Having an Art Class in High School was fun because I could be very imaginative. Growing up around my family they would cook and cater for a lot of celebrations, so as I was growing up I knew I had to cook my own meals one day so I suggested why not learn to cook from my family but I can also be inventive with dishes. Cooking I was still learning but I knew I would love baking it is more easier and I can be very ingenuity when it come to decorating and plating. Lin’s Sweet Treats do not like turning last minute orders because I want my customers to know they can always reach out to me about an order. Lin’s Sweet Treats is still a growing business each and everyday. I appreciate all the Chef’s, Family & Friends who have stood by me and helped me with my journey. Attending Art Institute of Atlanta is very impactful because you are learning different cultures of food and learning how to properly prepare it. Currently signing out of Culinary School it was hectic but it was worth it because I would be enthusiastic / growing Chef if it wasn’t for God, My Family and Chefs trailing me. Learning different ethnic groups dishes makes me want to travel the world to expand my knowledge about cooking. Lastly being an artist I can look at an picture and just do it on a cake.Thank you AI, Class of 2023 !
We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I have been Baker/Decorator for 5 years. When I first started I was very nervous about making cake batter and icing but I was excited to decorate since I love to be creative. Working and going to school 7 days out of the week, that’s all I am around is food those days, I might as well start noticing what is missing in my cake batter and what I could have did better. Furthermore, as I started posting more content of my work. More customers started to come in and place orders. I was trying my hardest when I first started and I thank the people who started out with me alot because I would not be in the position I am today and also a huge shoutout to decorators and bakers reaching out to me to give me pointers. Lin’s Sweet Treats is doing better and still expanding my brain on different desserts and different decorations .
Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Growing up watching YouTubers, they didn’t care about what they posted, so over the years I spent watching current and former users vlogging about their daily lives, doing skits, baking, cooking, and other things. seeing that people record or take images of their daily lives. I realized I had to try various cake flavors and create cakes differently to market myself. My family and friends kept sending me on social media cake ideas that I should attempt to try and make. Future business owners, remember that you are your own best promoter. If you want something, go after it. “Scared money don’t make money!” is a saying that I will always remember being told by my family. Do it if you desire the lifestyle you’ve been daydreaming about.
