We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Chez McGavock. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Chez below.
Chez , appreciate you joining us today. Let’s kick things off with your mission – what is it and what’s the story behind why it’s your mission?
At Canna Town our mission is to create a brand that allows you to be proud of where you’re from, as well as honor the special plant that has brought us all together. I wanted to bring community and cannabis together because they both have played a significant role in my life.
It takes a village to raise a child, and I truly believe that and that’s why community is so important to me. With cannabis I want to help break the negative stigma and help open conversations on how we can allow this special plant to be used responsible all over the world.
Chez , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Chez McGavock, born in raised in Houston, TX Alief to be exact. I’m the creator of Canna Town Clothing Brand where our motto is “Wear Your Town Love Your Cannabis” September 8th will be our 2yr anniversary. The journey has had its ups & downs, a lot of money, a lot of sacrifices, and time but with all that being said its been so much fun. My background coming out of college was mechanical engineering, where once I graduated I was a mechanical engineer for companies downtown as in the energy corridor. I did that for around 7yrs and started to lose interest in the profession (oil and gas to up and down for my taste). I then went into restaurant management for 5yrs, absolutely loved it, I’m a people person so it was right up my alley. Things were going great and then I started to feel like all the hard work I wasnt really amounting to anything and came to realize I was working hard for someone else’s dream and I didnt want to do that anymore.
I then started to think of things I was passionate about, I wound it down to Houston and cannabis. I love the city of Houston and cannabis has been in and out of my life since I was 16. So I started to think of a way I could bring both together and that how Canna Town came about. I had to watch a lot of youtube, read books, any info I could get I would take cause I had no idea abotu starting a clothing brand. Speeding up to the present, there are 9 cities with their own Canna Town Skyline Tees. We have Canna Fam reppin us from the US all the way to South Africa and everywhere between.
Fun Facts about the brand, we are all about supporting others and growing a community:
– Each city sklyine logo is created by someone from the city
– They also get to pick two color combinations for the shirt
On our instagram we do Saturday post to feature inspiring music artist (cannabis + music go together) were we take one of our branded videos and mix it with one of their songs. So its almost like a music video and the whole post is about the music artist.
What do you think helped you build your reputation within your market?
I believe people rock with Canna Town because we are true to what we believe in, yes the shirts are good quality, fit nice, and all that but Canna Town is more than clothes, We are about love and supporting one another and people in the industry recognize that and show appreciation.
How’d you think through whether to sell directly on your own site or through a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc.
Canna Town is an E-commerce shop www.thecannatown.com, the platform that we use is Shopify. We shows Shopify because we believe it has all the functionalities we need to be successful. We also use a dropshipping company so that we can focus on marketing and not have to worry about inventory or finding time to ship out product.
