We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Lynn Gregory a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Lynn , looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
The story behind the mission
I was raised to be an independent woman. Yes, of course being independent is great; but being empowered made me a greater asset to myself first! My mission is to spread self-empowerment.
The story is simple, stepping from a girl into a woman, a woman into a girl was wearing me out! I decided that I wanted to be self-happy with not just parts of me, but all of me. A few life events (a car accident & new job) changing events were the catalyst for my self-empowerment journey. I built a self-empowerment brand in my online store, Unique Apparel LLC. Our highlighted collections include Uniquely Fit activewear and UFLY (First Love You).
The root of my story is helping others to see their empowerment. To keep commending others for growing into their self-empowerment. My previous career did just that, so I’m definitely not new at helping others. The Rotarian in me desires to spread empowerment. The empowerment in me will continue to live on through my developing clothing brand. My self-care is empowering others!
Lynn G.
Lynn , love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
We opened in March 2019 & creating wearable statements that are sure to empower you. A clothing line that is trendy, practical, comfy, and empowering.
Uniquely FIT & UFLY Collections
are just the beginning of our self-empowerment line(s).
We want every visit to our shop to feel self-worthy and self-empowered
in the comfiest way
I love the comfort that lives longer than a single season. After all, if you’ve found an item that you love, don’t you want to wear it longer than a single season? We wanted to build a brand that stands for empowerment! We want more than just to be trendy. We want you to know that whatever you buy here, you’ll know that we believe in You!
I’m inspired by not just my daughter, but by ALL the women who strive to take their empowerment back! I knew that empowering my daughter would equip her with a value of self-worth. At Unique Apparel, I design what I feel, and feel what I design. It’s a combination that keeps her/mine/our self-worth and self-empowerment on GO! I understand that Unique FITs You!
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
The lesson I had to unlearn was not to see the expectations others had set for me. Until my late 30’s, I hadn’t looked in the mirror since college. Mirror to me is a metaphor of looking into my soul with my own eyes. My own eyes never looked at myself. I (self) was others’ aspirations and expectations. I unlearned this when I learned and understood that it was a behavior. I began to look in the mirror for self-awareness. Mirror time not only raises my self-awareness but raised my self-esteem. I began to set my own goals and aspirations through vision boards and meditation with God. I can now look in the mirror and say YASSS Girlllll or Girl you know you slipping. I have and will continue to accept myself unconditionally.

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?
Pivot in Life
While in college I became pregnant with my daughter. I really tried hard to stay in college, work, and be Mom! I was failing miserably in all three. During this time I was not in a very good headspace. I ultimately had a nervous breakdown and needed a new direction to get a handle on the choices that I had made. So I dropped out of college and enrolled in a Certified Nursing Assistant class. I then sent my 3-month-old baby girl to live with my Big Sister and Mom. Shortly after only being in class for two weeks I got hired full-time while still attending CNA classes. I got my baby girl back when she was ten months old. As she grew I grew up! I didn’t let not having a college degree stop my goals. I started at the bottom of the field. When my baby girl was 7, we moved to another state and I got married. I then applied for a “degree job” with confidence. I got the job and became a Program Coordinator for a non-profit organization. I was so excited someone gave me a chance, even if I had to go through three months of long interviews. I felt I had beat my own odds. While in this field I made great strides and broke a few ceilings. One great moment was becoming the first black president of a 100-year-old Rotary Club in a small town. I also have helped many with start ups of for-profit and non-profit in the disability population. In 2019 I left all of this behind because my husband and I had an impactful car accident that had me seeing specialists to rehab my body. This is the year when I started my self-journey because it granted me that time. I started my online e-commerce store to spread self-empowerment. Pivots in my life I will never downplay because I stand today empowered and now can entrust myself with myself.
