We were lucky to catch up with Rebecca Faria recently and have shared our conversation below.

Rebecca, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Let’s talk about innovation. What’s the most innovative thing you’ve done in your career?

My name is Rebecca Faria and I’m the owner of Detox by Rebecca. Through years of experience and learning, including earning my Master’s degree in Body Aesthetics, I developed an innovative lymphatic technique called Detox by Rebecca. My technique combines various methods into one comprehensive treatment. For 12 years, I worked with lymphatic drainage massage in Brazil, where I studied Aesthetics and Cosmetology. Later on, in order to improve my studies even further, I went to Australia and deepened my knowledge in Oriental Medicine.

I’ve always dreamed of bringing lymphatic drainage to the United States. Although, I knew I would have to start from scratch and it wouldn’t be an easy path. When I finally arrived in Los Angeles in 2018, I had no friends or family and no money to invest in my business. I had to overcome several barriers, the biggest being language.
However, none of that stopped me. I remained determined to pioneer Brazilian lymphatic massage in my new city.

It was a tough road, starting with house calls which I had to get to using Uber since I didn’t have a car and my house was far from most of my clients. I wasn’t making enough money to support myself with lymphatic massage, so I also worked as a house cleaner to pay my expenses. I even did many treatments for free, just to get my work in front of more people. With that, gradually my clientele started to increase through word-of-mouth as people referred me to their friends. I worked 18 hour days, seven days per week because I truly believed in what I was doing.

After high-profile celebrities took notice of the unique benefits of my treatment, my reputation quickly spread throughout Hollywood. It’s amazing to see how lymphatic massage has become trendy and well-known not only in Los Angeles but also in other U.S. cities. I feel so grateful for the opportunity to introduce this effective technique to a wider audience.

Creating the Detox by Rebecca technique and bringing it to the United States has definitely been the most innovative achievement of my career. It’s an incredible feeling to know that I am making a positive impact on the health outcomes of Americans, while training other therapists in my technique and launching my brand and spa in Beverly Hills. Looking back at my journey, I am grateful for the hard work, education, and determination that brought me to where I am today. Above all, I give thanks to God for everything He has done in my life, and for the amazing people who have helped me along the way.

I’m Rebecca Faria, 30 years old and owner of Detox by Rebecca. I’ve dedicated almost a decade of my career to mastering lymphatic drainage massage.

I started doing massages in Brazil in my grandma’s room and charging $10 for each massage. I took an interest in this age-old beauty ritual, and immersed myself in the study of lymphatic drainage, aesthetics and cosmetology, earning a Master’s Degree in Body Aesthetics in Brazil, along with a training in Oriental Medicine.

When I arrived in the United States in 2018, I noticed that lymphatic drainage massage was relatively unknown, especially in Los Angeles. I wanted to change that by introducing my treatment to the community here. Over the years, I pioneered lymphatic drainage in LA and have developed my own unique approach called Detox Massage, which has been patented due to its effectiveness.

Detox Massage combines the power of manual lymphatic drainage massage with specialized equipment such as ultrasound, radiofrequency, cupping, endermologie and infrared sauna that boosts the metabolism and detoxifies the body. This personalized treatment is tailored to each client’s specific needs, focusing on the root problems that trigger body swelling, inflammation, and related health conditions. By addressing the underlying issues, I aim to provide long-lasting results and help clients achieve their goals.

The Brazilian Lymphatic Drainage Massage is at the core of my technique. It not only works on the inside, improving the immune system and reducing toxins but also focuses on the outside to contour and shape the body. I believe in the combination of beauty, wellness, and health, and my approach embodies this philosophy.

I take great pride in the reputation I’ve built solely through word of mouth. By offering the best possible treatment and focusing on the needs of my existing clients, I’ve gained their trust and loyalty. As a result, my schedule is consistently full, and I have a strong client base. The opening of my spa allowed me to train a team of professionals who also offer the same high-quality treatment and helped me to overcome the challenges of starting from scratch in a new country. I’m grateful for the support of my clients, who have helped me grow and expand my business.

I’m incredibly proud to be the first person to bring lymphatic massage to Los Angeles. Seeing how much it has grown and how widely accepted it is now brings me so much happiness. Since I arrived, I’ve seen a bunch of new lymphatic centers pop up, doctors recommending it to patients with all kinds of conditions, and articles being published about its effectiveness. It’s amazing because I know firsthand the incredible health and aesthetic benefits that come from getting a lymphatic massage.

My big dream is to continue growing my brand and make lymphatic massage even more well-known. I hope that one day it becomes just as popular here as it is back in Brazil. On top of all the other benefits, taking care of your lymphatic system is one of the best ways to prevent sickness and keep your immune system strong.

Do you have any insights you can share related to maintaining high team morale?

Even after having a baby, I made sure to be present at the spa to maintain our high-quality standards. Working side by side with my team serves as motivation and sets a positive example.

Regular meetings are a crucial part of my management style. I listen actively to my employees’ concerns and address them promptly to keep things running smoothly. This creates a harmonious work environment and prevents any major disruptions.

We have a fun practice at the spa where the therapists give each other periodic massages. It’s not just about relaxation, but also an opportunity to improve and maintain consistent techniques.

Employee input is highly valued. I actively seek their opinions and involve them in decision-making. Empowering them strengthens our team.

How did you put together the initial capital you needed to start your business?

I was able to start my own business by doing cleaning services and saving money while also offering massages. Initially, I didn’t have a car, so I relied on Uber to reach my clients. However, as I saved up enough money, I was able to purchase a car, which allowed me to expand my customer base. I reinvested everything I earned back into the business, fueling its growth.
