We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Morgan Mars a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Morgan thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Let’s start with the story of your mission. What should we know?
Morgan Mars Vintage is a vintage jewelry brand that was started when I was working in trend forecasting. After realizing how wasteful the fashion industry is I saw a white space for vintage and wanted to build not just a brand but a community. A place for people who love fashion and jewelry but also want to help the planet. I believe you shouldn’t have to sacrifice style for sustainability and that’s why I pride myself in curating timeless accessories that are carefully picked to last another lifetime.
Morgan, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
After quitting my trend forecasting job in Los Angeles I relocated to Texas in 2018 to help my grandfather with his estate sale company. I collected vintage jewelry from each sale until I had enough to start a online shop. From there I started doing pop ups and trade shows to grow a local following. Most people don’t have the time to dig through estate sales or antique shops to find vintage pieces therefore they resort to fast fashion. I curate one of a kind vintage jewelry that is unique just like our customers. Our pieces are for the girls that want to stand out in a world of trends. Morgan Mars Vintage provides aesthetically pleasing accessories that don’t hurt the planet or your wallet.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?
Being consistent and providing valuable content that people can relate to. My community knows how important it is to me to teach about how much waste is contributed by the fashion and jewelry industry. The majority of them feel the same and want to do their part to be more intentional in their purchases as well as support small businesses.

What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
I gain the majority of my customers through local pop ups. Being able to bond in person over our love for fashion and seeing how each customer styles the products differently than I would helps drive my creativity. It’s so much more personal than just selling a product. Each of my pieces has a story and has lived multiple lives, I love being a part of giving every piece a new life.
