We were lucky to catch up with Joy Ruffen recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Joy thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Coming up with the idea is so exciting, but then comes the hard part – executing. Too often the media ignores the execution part and goes from idea to success, skipping over the nitty, gritty details of executing in the early days. We think that’s a disservice both to the entrepreneurs who built something amazing as well as the public who isn’t getting a realistic picture of what it takes to succeed. So, we’d really appreciate if you could open up about your execution story – how did you go from idea to execution?
I attended the famous fashion school of design ” the Fashion Institute Of Technology” My love and passion for the business supported me in being the first female black buyer in the big apple of New York City. My intention was to become a fashion designer yet in my first year I realized not being able to draw was going to be a big hindrance to my career.. My favorite instructor said JOY, way not consider Fashion Buying & Merchandising? The best decision made at that time for me. The awareness that I had a great eye for what was to come and a strong sense of Estejnecoic was a blesings.
I was able to get on to an Executive training program with a leading high end speciality store and became the first female black buyer in New Yiork City. Vogue Recuriteed me later and I became a Representativet traveling all over the country putting on fashion shows attending to evrything to deliver a professiona five star fashion show., I loved every moment of that time in the fashio world.
It was only when I left that I coluld see how so many of us who loved fahion and style had a diffcult time assembling a style that was able to showcase us in our best style. My Assignment now is to take women into the basics of learning how to dress themselves and stand out in the leadeship roles that belong to them; how to dress as the professional heart -centered leaders that they are showcasing from withing themselves showing thier greatness asthe new female trailblazers and agents of change.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.

Have you ever had to pivot?
I love this question because I have just made a switch to keep the foundation of my work. The discovery for many women as it was for me a long time ago needs more self-discovery, self-awareness, and self-confidence. The hunger to know and the beginning of being more in sync with the soul’s purpose of why they are here and what is best to do while here
Knowing how powerful we are and how we show up entails all of our being. Our femininity, sexuality, and sensuality are all one; our assignment is to have them operating at their highest vibration. ,.
What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
I am loving this question. As much as we have great technology today and we are no longer in small communities. We are global/Internationa and we can connect with people all over the world.
Yet, even so, it’s still old-school means and ways of connecting that can seem best even today. Networking and word of mouth, and good old fashion engagement. The ability to connect and meet people one on one makes a big difference.
To be able to Zoom is a blessing and makes for a great way to connect.
