Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Beth Bassil. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Beth, appreciate you joining us today. Can you talk to us about a risk you’ve taken – walk us through the story?
I think the biggest “risk” was leaving the security of my full-time position to branch out on my own with freelance work. I was making good money, had benefits, a work culture, mentors – there was a lot I would be leaving behind if I made this shift. I knew I wanted to have more creative freedom and to be able to decide for myself which brands I would be working on. I also craved more work-life balance and wanted to work from anywhere (this was before the pandemic) so I knew this would be the right move for me.
I have mentored so many publicists to take the leap of faith and go out on their own – I always say, just do it. Majority of it is having the confidence, the rest will fall into place. In the world of PR you are constantly making new connections and networking, selling yourself is the biggest part. I am really personable, I love people and learning their backgrounds, what sparks them. It’s intriguing to me. After I was freelancing for a few months I met my now business partner, Danielle Goodman on a blind coffee date. After a few months of leaning on each other we decided to make it official and launched b.good PR. We love keeping our agency small and intimate. Clients we represent also love the close knit relationship we bring. We are in our third year of business going strong representing brands across the board in the beauty, wellness, lifestyle and fashion categories – some non-profits as well. An important mission we follow is representing founders and brands that are doing some sort of good for our world and the people in it.

Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
Throughout college I interned everywhere, from WWD to Alexander Wang to Crewcuts to textile companies. I wanted to explore the different parts of the business to really get a feel for where I wanted to be. I knew it was PR once I became exposed to it all. It felt like such a rush. I landed my first job starting my full-time career working in-house at HALSTON then moved to different PR agencies, mainly in the fashion space. I think being thrown right in to figure it out was the most challenging part but what led me to where I am today. It takes a tough skinned person to work in this industry. I moved to Los Angeles to open my previous employers west-coast office and after a few months of being there I met so many amazing people and brands, that is when I decided to go out on my own. I think the biggest challenge, and a big moment of becoming comfortable with the uncomfortable, was moving away from my family and friends to a city where I knew no one. It felt like a re-birth, a fresh start – I was able to come back to myself and learn what I really wanted.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Danielle and I were set-up my Mara Freedman of STORYD Media (hi Mara!). We met on a blind coffee date and instantly hit it off. We were helping each other out with our freelance clients and worked so well together, we decided to make it official after a few months. b.good PR launched January 2020. The “b” derives from my name and the “good” derives from Danielle’s last name. We based our agency ethos around this as well, ““In order to do good, you have to be good, and at b.good PR we work with passionate people and brands devoted to creating products, platforms and services that offer good to our world.” We are halfway through our third year and have learned so much from each other. We work so differently but when we come together we make magic happen – the balance of the minds.
How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I think one of the things clients love most about us is our transparency and sense of intimacy in working together. When you sign on with b.good you are getting us, the founders. We hire the occasional freelancer for added support but we have found that the clients we work with want more personal attentiveness. I think what has been crucial are bi-weekly touch base calls. They aren’t just a rundown of what has happened. We make them super interactive in brainstorming new ideas, angles and initiatives which leaves us with a new list of ideas to execute every two weeks.
