Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Martin Morrow. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Martin, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Do you wish you had started sooner?
I started comedy when I was 18 and I think I grew up faster as a result and didn’t have the best moral figures because comedians in their 20’s, 30’s, and 40’s in the 2000’s were natural degenerates. I had a lot of fun but didn’t have the most normal of growing experiences so while I’m grateful to have had the moments and opportunities I did at a young age, I think I was easily taken advantage of by people in the industry who didn’t have the best interest for me or my future so I do think about what my life would be like if I started comedy at 25 instead but hindsight is 20/20…or 18/18.
Martin, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is Martin Morrow, I’m a comedian, actor, and writer. I’ve done copywriting for the likes of Atlanta on FX, CBS, and Pose. I’ve performed stand-up all over the world in places like Shanghai and Cape Town. I did sketch and improv at The Second City in Chicago and have been in commercials for Energy Upgrade California, H&R Block and Progressive!
In your view, what can society to do to best support artists, creatives and a thriving creative ecosystem?
Pay them! If you like someone’s work, go see them and pay them. Simple and yet…here we are.
Are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
Everything that popped I wish I started on earlier. I thought TikTok was for kids and perverts 5 years ago and now comics are selling out shows from it.
