We recently connected with Anquenett EbonyK Kiplin and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Anquenett EbonyK, thanks for joining us today. Do you wish you had waited to pursue your creative career or do you wish you had started sooner?
I’ve always been the live without regrets type everything I’ve have went through in my past I’ve have came to peace with it and I’ve made it my strength but honestly yes of course I wish I would’ve gave more energy in my craft. I was on the right path but I was so focused on making money that when acting opportunities came my way I was unavailable because I was content with working at a bar in a restaurant I wasn’t seeing my independence potential. I was doing Facebook live and that was all good for me it took me moving out of state being in a completely different element to walk fully in my purpose fearlessly. Now I have 6 movies available on Tubi more in pre production I have a live podcast MiDday Vibez that’s aired on tv on Streamcastic app and I have my on event bartending company Sugaboxx Cocktails. Definitely worth the wait!!
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Growing up a silver spoon Atlanta kid my parents always made sure we used our full potential and we were great a everything we did. I was a cheerleader Ballerina Tap Dancer pianist trumpeter; Acting was something I always did I loved to mimic other accents my favorite was British. I would live in a world of make believe all day so my mom decided I needed to take drama and from there I developed a love for acting in high school I decided I wanted to be a new anchor I was the daily news for my school I then developed the love for the camera. After graduating I took up journalism but it was a lot of writing I changed my major to criminal justice that was too stressful so I received a associate and continued as a business major through out this time I was working at different bars restaurants retail stores I then developed my love for cocktails I never forget my first cocktail it was a Apple Martini it was beautiful the ice was scaling right across the top the color was so green it looked like candy and the smell was so fresh I took my first sip and it was so delicious i knew I wanted to make this so the girl who worked the bar at my job taught me everything about liquor and mixing flavors with food I feel in love with how I could mix flavor that gave people pleasure. I’ve always been the chatty type always having something to say lol. I would do lives expressing my thoughts on different situations and just randomly ranting and discussing dreams people was loving it. When I met my wife everything clicked for me I got certified as a mixologist started Sugaboxx Cocktails she was an actress and she did Facebook lives as well she was from Detroit we met in Atlanta we moved to Detroit she became a radio host then we got picked up as a duo on Podcastic by Milds Dixon “Mr.Podcastic” with our own show series MiDday Vibez every Wednesday at 2pm where we showcase people talents and creative work along with showing people how to mix up cocktails. I then attended acting school at the Actors Loft with Hugh amazing acting coach learn how to act professionally went on casting calls now you can fin me on Sons of A Preacher, Rotten, Comeback Home, Make it out, Surprise and more to come 2023 & 2024.
Let’s talk about resilience next – do you have a story you can share with us?
When I was 25 I got pregnant with a beautiful baby girl I carried her for 9months in an abusive marriage when she was born she was diagnosed with a server case of hypertension which she passed from 14days after birth that was the hardest pain I had to endure and to continuing life was not in my plan. Shortly after my daughter passed I tried to OD I was unresponsive for 10min when I was brought back to life I had to relearn how to speak, think, spell but I knew I had a purpose God slowly started lining my life up an eliminating people and things out of my life to serve his purpose he had for me.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My Daughter is my motivation to be successful she was my one and only. My mission is to share my story my life experiences to let people know there is more to life. God has a purpose for everyone’s life and we should all strive for excellence.
