We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Kassidy Gaston a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Kassidy, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. We love asking folks what they would do differently if they were starting today – how they would speed up the process, etc. We’d love to hear how you would set everything up if you were to start from step 1 today
If I could start over today the biggest thing I would do is trust myself and God. When I first started out makeup wasn’t a trend. It wasn’t as popular, especially the looks I was creating. I loved bold color and I still do. When I first started I was always told how pretty my makeup was but it was “too much” now too much is in. I always regretted listening to everybody else. It made me loose confidence. I lost my creativity, instead of trusting myself and trusting the gift I was given. I find myself thinking about where I could be now had I just stuck with what I know and what made me happy instead of allowing so many people in my head. It felt as if nobody believed in me I was even told that I wouldn’t make money in this industry. It all led to me taking a 3 year break with makeup. Now I look up and people love color, they love having a full face. I wasted so much time trying to change what I do and how I do it, just for it to be a trend now.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I am Kassidy. My brand name is TheMagiKTouch. I am a passionate makeup artist with an unwavering love for all things glamourous. I strive to enhance natural features. From soft and ethereal to bold and dramatic, whether it’s for a wedding or special occasion. I deliver flawless results that leave my clients feeling like the best version of themselves. My main service is makeup but be on the lookout for facials and potentially hair since I am a licensed cosmetologist. The thing I am most proud of is my client retention. As of right now I have 100% retention rate. Every client I have had has came back, even the ones from when I fist came back into the industry, and I am so grateful for their patience with me. The main thing I want everyone to know is that when you sit in my chair I am whatever you need me to be. I am a fried , a therapist, listening ear.=, we can cry , laugh,scream, whatever yo need. When you sit in my chair you become more than a client.

How do you keep in touch with clients and foster brand loyalty?
I keep n touch with clients by letting them know that they are more than just that. While you are a client you are also a person, human ,and so am I and treat my clients as more than number, more than a dollar sign.
Can you open up about how you funded your business?
When it comes to the initial funding of my business I honestly only had enough for one thing which was a foundation palette and some disposables But it was so much more that I needed to be able to actually start working on a person’s face.. I remember calling one of my best friends, Keke, and asking her should I get A or B and she was like “girl get both” I told her that wasn’t an option, next thing I knew I had a cash app from her with enough money to get both. Im forever thankful and I honestly owe the start of my business to her.
