Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Alixandra Morgan. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Hi Alixandra, thanks for joining us today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
In 2018, I took a leap of faith and quit my 9-5 job to focus on my passion for creating and documenting others’ stories in an authentic and timeless way. I took the risk and pursued my career path as a creative and business owner. and it’s been one of my biggest accomplishments. It was a very nerve racking time, but I’m so happy I took the risk.
I’m coming up on 5 years in my photography business this August. I’m patient, caring, creative, and inspired by life. It’s been beautifully hard and so rewarding.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
Hi,
My name is Alixandra, but most call me Alix! I grew up in the Metro Detroit area with my mom and younger brother. I have a strong work ethic, putting myself through college while working multiple jobs. I truly believe that the amount of effort you put in is directly related to the results you achieve, with any and everything you do in life.
While attending basic classes in college I struggled to find a path that felt right for me. After talking about my passions with a friend I decided on the Media & Communications program for photography. I instantly fell in love with capturing people as you can tell so much of someone’s story through thoughtful imagery.
I provide Wedding and Family photography for the romantic, bold and authentic. I am able to read my clients and help guide them in a way that captures the true moment. I believe living a life of curiosity, kindness and love helps not only myself, but all those I photograph.
I thrive off connection, adventures and capturing life’s most precious moments! I’m passionate about creating lasting and meaningful connections with my clients that allow me to capture every major milestone along the way. Time passes us so quickly and I want everyone I serve to be able to look back on their images and be reminded of all the love, the laughter and that particular moment in time. It’s so much more than just a photograph.

What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
I believe for me, one of the most rewarding aspects of being a creative is capturing memories otherwise gone. When there is an unfortunate passing in the family and a client comes to me to share that I took one of the last images of them or even the only image, it truly shows me the gratitude of my work.
Another rewarding piece for me, is that although this is very much a job and I’m working more hours than a 9a-5p, (Ha, who would have thought running a business would take so much of my time) it doesn’t feel like a job. There’s a big sense of freedom for myself and I believe my happiness pours over to everyone I meet and I’m honored to be even just a blip of happiness in someone else’s life.

Is there something you think non-creatives will struggle to understand about your journey as a creative?
I think some look at Photography and think it’s a fun-filled job where we get to shoot pretty things and people all the time. We are creatives who get to have a lot of fun photographing life’s moments, yes, but we are also CEO’s, CFO’s, Project managers, Sales and Marketing managers, and the list goes on. Running a business in the creative field is similar to running other types of companies and takes a lot of time and persistence. It is a slow and steady build and can sometimes get lonely. If you think about it, most people have weekends off, while photographing weddings is commonly on, well, the weekend. You miss the family and friend gatherings and Monday comes along and you’re back to the daily tasks of a business. It’s not photos and fun all the time and that’s what makes it even more worth it. Growing my business has been such an accomplishment and I’m very happy I get to call this my job.
