Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Brenna Johnson. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.

Brenna, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today One of the most important things we can do as business owners is ensure that our customers feel appreciated. What’s something you’ve done or seen a business owner do to help a customer feel valued?

Whenever someone orders something from my store, I’m touched. I put so much of myself into the things I make so I want to make sure customers feel appreciated. They’re the ones that make it possible for me to live my dreams, after all! To show appreciation, I draw something for every order I send out. I hope this makes them feel a personal connection since making my art is so personal to me.

Brenna, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?

Cube U Designs is a one man show. It’s just me doing everything from designing to screen printing to social media management and so on. I wouldn’t have it any other way as this is how I am able to make sure every piece of apparel is ethically printed. This sets me apart because I am able to put so much of myself into my work and I hope everyone is able to feel that in my work. I’d way what really sets me apart besides that is my sense of humor that I carry into each piece as well as the wide size ranges I carry in my designs.

Can you open up about how you funded your business?

I’d love to talk about how I initially funded my business because I want people to know how accessible it is to get into screen printing. I was a server at a crab restaurant just before I started. I’ve always wanted to do art and once I saved up enough money from the job I bought a screen printer and shirts. I messed all of them up! I was self taught from the start and luckily I had other artists to lean on for tips and advice. I was able to have something sell-able in just two months of printing.

Do you sell on your site, or do you use a platform like Amazon, Etsy, Cratejoy, etc?

I recommend Shopify for an Ecommerce platform. I’ve used plenty of them and I’ve found Shopify is the perfect balance of customizable for web designing and streamline for working.
