We were lucky to catch up with Natalie Dresher recently and have shared our conversation below.
Natalie, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. The first dollar your business earns is always special and we’d love to hear how your brand made its first dollar of revenue.
I was working at a makeup store after I graduated college, before entering graduate school. A girl came up to me after getting a trial done locally and explained she really wanted her wedding makeup to look like my makeup. I was already doing makeup for special event clients and some production jobs but I never had a bride before. I told her that I do makeup and she exclaimed she would love to book me. I couldn’t exchange my information with her at the store but she googled my name and found my email! I booked her as a bride and she looked like a supermodel on her wedding day. I posted a picture on my website and to all my socials of her in her wedding dress and the bridal requests came pouring in!

Natalie, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I consider myself to be a bridal concierge. I can help you with picking out different vendors, give suggestions and opinions based on my experience with almost 10 years in the wedding industry and am more than happy to give a listening ear. I answer emails almost always within 24 hours if not SOONER. I am very responsive! It is one of the best things about my business other than my work.

Any insights you can share with us about how you built up your social media presence?
Don’t be scared to do trade work! In order to get the work I want (soft glam, full glam looks) I really had to do some models for free to be able to exemplify the type of work I like to do and that is how I got the client I wanted! Be mindful of collaborations though, collaborations need to provide benefit to both you AND the other party, don’t get taken advantage of.

We’d love to hear the story of how you turned a side-hustle into a something much bigger.
I have my masters in speech language pathology as well as my license. I practiced for about 5 years and did brides and special event makeup on the weekends only. Now I do makeup full time. My move to Miami from NYC really encouraged me to start over in a new state with just focusing on ONE career. With focusing on ONE career I was able to grow and expand my business.
