We recently connected with Danielle Fuller and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Danielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Being a business owner can be really hard sometimes. It’s rewarding, but most business owners we’ve spoken sometimes think about what it would have been like to have had a regular job instead. Have you ever wondered that yourself? Maybe you can talk to us about a time when you felt this way?
I am most happy being a business owner. I was born for this! I no longer entertain the thought of holding a regular job. I’ve given myself the gift of not having a Plan B so to speak. I rarely think of what it would be like to hold a regular job because I’m aware of what it’s like, and what it would require of me. I’m no longer willing to forego what I require of self to fulfill “my” dreams. I instead think of why I made the decision to leave the workforce in the first place when things get a little rough. It takes time and consistent effort getting to that space, but when I think of purpose, my in faith God’s promises, and the gifts He has instilled in me, I tend to snap out of it. My abilities far exceed what can be placed on a resume. My gifts have made room! The last time the thought of a having a regular job surfaced came about when I realized I was pretty much alone in my endeavors. My vision could only be seen through my eyes, of course by design. It was difficult to come to terms with whom or what wasn’t for me. I mourned lots of people, places and things I’d thought would be a part of my journey. The financial aspect of it had a way with me early on as well! I had to train my mind to accept my new norm which was a task in itself when you’re used to guaranteed money every two weeks, along with all other benefits that come with the workforce. I now embrace those challenges if or when they come about and, I couldn’t be happier with my decision. Freedom looks good on me! I love to defy odds and go against the grain. Those things that seemed to give me a sense of security do not compare to the feeling of providing them for myself.

Danielle, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m a living example of how passion meets purpose. My story is life-long; I was born for this! I discovered purpose at an early age in the form of love, and my gift to inspire and serve others. I’m a creative being with a passion for fashion, writing, and I love innovation. Patty Cake Convention was born in the middle of chaos. A personal tragedy brought forth my desire to inspire other women. I am most creative when times are difficult. I worked full-time, so I started my journey after hours working on the concept, my products and services, I developed my website, and planned the business model. I had the idea of facilitating inspirational conventions that include speaking, collaborating and networking, and promoting other businesses. My very first convention was a success! I lost my job after almost 13 years at a major fashion corporation due to relocation to another state. I took my leap of faith and decided I’d go full-time with Patty Cake instead of following the company. I have an eye for rare finds and eclectic accessories. I developed custom products and went full speed ahead with my conventions, working in the field at events/expos, and e-commerce. My passion for fashion is a vessel to reach and inspire others in business and personally. I never miss an opportunity to spread love and serve others. I was blessed with a boutique in Independence Center-Mall in 2022. I am now able to have what I call , “Mini Patty Cake Conventions” on a daily basis! It brings me joy to positively impact others, all while selling beautiful products. There is no better feeling than fulfilling my purpose by way of my passion. I believe what sets me apart from others is my creative insight, and how I sprinkle a little love and inspiration with every personal encounter. I am most proud of my ability to endure, and for being unapologetic about why I’m here! What I want others to know about Patty Cake Convention is that it was built from my love of people, ethics, and purpose for the greater good of others. Fashion is the vessel that allows and supports the opportunity.

How’d you build such a strong reputation within your market?
Authenticity. Being unapologetically me, being transparent and open to share my journey with others has helped build my reputation within the market. I get a kick out of showing others how valuable and amazing they are as well. I love to smile, and maintain a positive approach; that goes a long way and serves me well!

What’s been the most effective strategy for growing your clientele?
The most effective strategy for me has been my ability to create outside the box and stand out. Being innovative is another strategy; it pairs well with word of mouth! Presentation and packaging is of importance to me as well; surprise and delight! Quality of service leaves quite an impression; my goal is for everyone who walks in the door feel valued. I try to make certain clients leave my boutique with more than what they came with; a word of love or encouragement beyond their purchase.
