We recently connected with James Kwon and have shared our conversation below.
James, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Born and raised in Brooklyn, grew up obsessed with pizza. South Brooklyn was one of the main hubs of New York City Pizza and began eating it every single day as a kid. As I got older, started traveling or other neighborhoods and boroughs to try all the best pizza in the city. Went to New Haven, Connecticut, Chicago, and even Naples for the love of pizza. Worked in the real estate and finance industry after college and was eating my favorite place at the time for lunch. Became friends with the pizza guys and struck up a friendship which soon became a business deal. Give me a call for the full story.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
Village Square Pizza is truly more than a pizzeria. We have 4 locations in New York City, but it’s really a place where we share our passion with our customers. We truly believe we’re sharing what we love with everyone who comes to our home. It’s a place where locals and tourists gather for more than good food, but also a good time

How about pivoting – can you share the story of a time you’ve had to pivot?
Was in finance and real estate and decided to follow what I love. Coming from a traditional Korean family and background, the restaurant business was not what my parents wanted for me. Like most immigrant Korean families, they wanted me to be a doctor or a lawyer but I decided to follow my dreams and passion and get into the pizza business.
We’d love to hear about how you met your business partner.
Met my business partner eating at the pizzeria every single day.
