We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Yichun Lin. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Yichun below.
Yichun, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
The learning process in art and design requires persistence, curiosity, and pushing oneself beyond comfort zones. Through formal education, hands-on experience, and continuous self-study, I learned to tell my own story. However, beyond these traditional methods, maintaining a solid curiosity and imagination and actively engaging with others played a crucial role in my learning journey. By seeking inspiration from different sources, exchanging ideas with fellow artists and designers, and constantly pushing the boundaries of my creativity, I broadened my perspective and enhanced my skills. Time constraints and financial limitations were obstacles, but I overcame them by making the most of available opportunities.
Yichun, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I’m Yi Chun, an artist, and designer with a deep passion for visual storytelling. With a career rooted in my early sensitivity toward visuals, I pursued art and design, earning a master’s degree from the Academy of Art University. I’ve had the privilege of creating commercial works for various brands, receiving recognition from prestigious competitions like the A’Design Award, MUSE Creative Awards, VEGA Awards, CQ70, C2A, and GDUSA. These experiences have shaped my craft, establishing my distinctive style and creative vision. My work involves capturing life’s and culture’s essence through unique interpretations. Known for vibrant colors and imaginative designs, I strive to produce visually striking pieces that captivate, inspire, and convey powerful messages. Whether it’s brand identity projects, short film posters, or other creative endeavors, my focus is on engaging the audience on a deeper level.
One project I’m particularly proud of is my collaboration with the Taichung Public Library in Taiwan. It aimed to create a modern, inspiring space seamlessly merging functionality and aesthetics. Through extensive research and understanding of the library’s target audience, I incorporated elements reflecting its cultural significance while infusing modern design principles. The resulting vibrant colors and innovative layouts foster an atmosphere of exploration and curiosity. This project exemplifies my ability to translate concepts into visually impactful designs that meet client’s needs, demonstrating my commitment to creating transformative spaces.
My ability to approach things from new angles sets me apart, bridging language and culture through art and design. With a distinct perspective, unwavering dedication, and passion, I continually push the boundaries of my work. I constantly explore new realms, striving to exceed my creative limits and deliver exceptional results. I’m dedicated to providing unique products and services that address individual needs. I offer more than aesthetics for potential clients, followers, and fans. I value their visions and goals through collaboration and a personalized approach, translating them into visually stunning and conceptually rich creations.
Looking back, are there any resources you wish you knew about earlier in your creative journey?
When I embarked on my creative journey in my early year, I wish I had known about more online communities and forums like Behance where I could connect with fellow creatives and learn from them. These resources would have inspired me, sparked new ideas, and offered valuable feedback and advice on my work. I also wish I had started learning and mastering various software and tools earlier. A solid understanding of these tools would have allowed me to bring my creative visions to life more efficiently and effectively. It would have opened up new possibilities and expanded my skill set, enabling me to explore different mediums and techniques. Discovering these resources and acquiring new skills earlier in my creative journey would have undoubtedly accelerated my growth and development as a visual designer. However, every step of my trip, including the challenges and discoveries, has shaped me into the artist I am today.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
From a visual design perspective, the most rewarding aspect is witnessing the impact of my creations on people’s lives. It can evoke emotions, shape experiences, and effectively communicate messages. Seeing how my designs resonate with individuals and bring value to their lives is incredibly fulfilling. Additionally, the constant exercise of creativity and problem-solving inherent in visual design fuels my passion and provides a sense of accomplishment. The collaborative nature of the design process, working with clients and fellow creatives, further enriches the journey and reinforces the rewarding nature of being a visual designer.
