Britney, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today Setting up an independent practice is a daunting endeavor. Can you talk to us about what it was like for you – what were some of the main steps, challenges, etc.

The best thing about establishing my own practice is the ability to build a company centered around developing solutions to issues I feel are important. Though hair loss is a common issue, (studies show that 85% of people across the world deal with some type of hair loss), it directly affected several people in my family & they looked to me for a solution. For a while, I had no idea just how deep hair loss affects people. I did not understand the emotional effects, or the lengths people go through to find solutions to their conditions. Once I better understood all of that, I got to work. I took the leap! It then became my personal mission to provide support, resources, & client centered hair care solutions that allowed those dealing with hair loss a multi-faceted beauty safe haven. By having my own practice, I can use the thoughts, feelings, & emotions that I experience when helping my clients, to build a business that is truly client centered. Every client is different & with hair loss being a sensitive issue for some, it can’t be approached in a cookie cutter format. It truly takes compassion. Some hair loss practices have become so commercialized, that clients are seen so fast & their story is lost in the revolving door of express appointments. I work hard to ensure that each of my clients understand & feel that them & their story is an important part of what I do & it’s what pushes me to work harder.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.

I am Britney Jones. I am a licensed cosmetologist, certified non-surgical hair loss replacement specialist, certified hair loss specialist, & author. I am also the owner & founder of Bennett Beauty Solutions, which is a multi-faceted beauty company, that focuses on providing clients experiencing hair loss individualized hair care solutions. I’ve always wanted to be a hairstylist since I was about 8yrs old, but I knew I wanted more than just a regular hair salon. I didn’t know exactly what type of hair salon I wanted & really I didn’t even know there were specialties of hair care until I became a licensed cosmetologist. After several family members started experiencing hair loss, I got into trichology training & started learning more about hair loss. I took a break from the hair industry & studied in the medical industry for a few years to learn more about how the body works from the inside out & how the hair is effected. In 2021 I put all of that knowledge together & started putting the plan together for Bennett Beauty Solutions & in 2022, we became a licensed business!
Bennett Beauty Solutions is a client centered beauty safe haven for clients dealing with hair loss issues. We provide support, resources, & individualized hair care solutions to each client’s hair loss issue.
We use professional, scientifically proven hair care products that promote & stimulate hair growth while assessing the needs of each clients to provide them an aesthetically pleasing, natural look with the assistance of applications of cranial prosthesis (aka medical wigs & hairpieces). Many clients find hair loss an emotional process & also suffer from the emotional effects such as depression, loss of confidence, embarrassment, etc. We took all of these things into consideration when we developed our salon layout & plans of care. Our salon is designed to have a private setting where clients can feel comfortable. We schedule by appointment only so that each client is given the individual attention they deserve without being rushed or crowded by other clients waiting to be serviced. We take the time to sit with each client during their consultation to find the appropriate solutions for our clients. Even if we can’t provide the services needed to help a particular client, we don’t leave them to fend for themselves! We reach out to other specialists & make referrals to make sure every client we meet is provided options & proper care. We are truly here to help!

Can you tell us about a time you’ve had to pivot?

When I first started out in the hair industry I was pretty set on being a hair color specialist. I still love doing hair color to this day, however I didn’t find it nearly as fulfilling as helping the clients I have now with hair loss. With hair loss clients I feel like I am truly making a difference in someone’s life.

Any stories or insights that might help us understand how you’ve built such a strong reputation?

I think one thing that helped build my reputation in Nashville’s hair industry is my ability to stick to my specialty & being able to say ‘no’ to things that did not align with my business. When I first started doing hair, I didn’t have a specialty, I would literally do any client that walked through the door of the salon I was working in at the time. That was hard to keep up. I didn’t like doing ALL the styles & techniques that clients were asking for so sometimes I couldn’t be the best version of me & exemplify my true abilities. When I sat down with myself, & really homed in on what I wanted to specialize in & became focused on that, I think my clients were able to see my true expertise & respected my guidance as an educated professional. I started respectfully saying ‘no’ to any client that asked for service outside of my specialty, so that I could provide my hair loss clients with 100% of me.
