We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Isabel Cooper. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Isabel below.
Isabel, appreciate you joining us today. We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
I recently read a post by Ceelo Green on instagram that stated “I respect anybody who’s pulled an idea out of their brain and fully brought it to life. That shit is spiritual. To know that it started as a thought and you brought it into fruition is crazy. Shout out the ones who see it all the way through. Keep creating”. This truly resonated with me. As a creative, I think we are master manifestors. Coming up with an idea, putting it in your notes, producing it yourself, and creating an end product is a feeling like no other. This past year as a commercial dance major at Hussian College I have been able to create and produce so many incredible, original projects. At the beginning of the semester, 3 of my friends and I produced, and created a burlesque show, “Les Femmes”, which is now an entertainment company. I was also able to produce, choreograph and direct my senior dance film thesis titled “Limerence”. I had ideas about both of these specific projects in my notes for over two years now, and being able to finally create them, finally take the words I had written down and see the projects come to life was such an amazing experience.
Isabel, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
I am Izzy Cooper, a creative dance artist based in Los Angeles. For the past four years I have been honing my craft as a commercial dancer, choreographer, director, and producer at Hussian College Los Angeles. Anything from clothing design, to directing dance films, I really just love coming up with ideas and seeing them through. As I come out of the realm of school and into the “real world” I plan to continue creating. With my newfound free time I seek to collaborate with all and any of the incredible creatives that live out here in LA and make unique projects that speak to my own voice. I plan to start a clothing line, continue producing shows for my co-owned entertainment company “Les Femmes Productions”, choreograph dance pieces, and overall just create.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
The process of creating is truly the most rewarding aspect of being an artist. Yes of course the end product is incredible to watch, but the journey of getting to that is really what it is all about. Being in the depths of producing something and having to pivot and change plans on the fly is the best rush. Finally figuring it out and moving ahead is so fulfilling. I love being within the process and collaborating with fellow creatives. Hearing everyones idea formulate into one grand idea and working together to create it is a true accomplishment.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
I simply just want to create. Whether it be small projects or huge, the process and the end product of creating is something I am so incredibly grateful for. After graduating college I wish to continue dancing and would love to perform at festivals, on tour, in music videos etc… Eventually I plan to creative direct my own videos and continue producing shows, films and anything else my soul craves to create!
