TWO32, thanks for joining us, excited to have you contributing your stories and insights. What did your parents do right and how has that impacted you in your life and career?
When I decided to pursue music as a career my parents were on the fence like the parents of most creatives but they never made me feel like my dream was absolutely worthless. Though they didn’t agree with the uncertainty of my path they still supported me as my #1 fans truly and that’s something I’ll never forget. Of course they had moments where they asked if I was sure this what I wanted to do and even offered me other options to pursue when it came to work but once they seen my love for the craft they’ve stuck by me 110% even on days where I wanted to quit. They allowed me to express myself and be who I am with little to no judgment and whole lotta love.

TWO32, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
I was born in Queens, New York in the year 1996 and for as long as I can remember I’ve been around and been in love with music honestly. From hearing my mom sing me to sleep as a child to sitting in the studio with my father helping him make beats at the age of 3, it was all captivating to me. My own musical pursuits wouldn’t start until I was about 13 though. At that time I lived in Atlanta and had been there for about 5 years at that point but it wasn’t until I joined the marching band in high school that I would tap in to my talents more. I remember riding home from a football game one night and the trip was maybe 3 hours long so we had more than enough time to kill on the bus, someone started up a beat on the drums and we started cyphing amongst each other. It got to be my turn and I just went for it since everyone else was but it all came to me so easily and I actually enjoyed it, and although it was my first time really freestyling it felt extremely natural and thus started my journey of writing and taking music a little more serious. So for the next 4 years until I graduated high school I honed my craft, constantly writing and rapping, to everyone and anyone that I could really. When I graduated in 2014 I then moved back to New York to pursue my career as a musician which undoubtedly made my parents very uneasy but for some reason they still stood behind me and that in itself was very empowering. Shortly after I returned back to my hometown is when I decided to take singing more seriously as well and made the decision to incorporate it into my music more and I think that was my best decision to date or at least the most pivotal to me. Since the start of my pursuit in 2014 til now I’ve performed countless times, I’ve released 4 projects (bodies of work) and a number of singles and even got the luxury of going on a fan funded tour around 2019 which was definitely a life changing experience. I remember when I first started making music all I ever wanted to do was show the world and the people in it that anything was possible if we follow our hearts and to inspire people to follow their hearts give their dreams the energy they require and I’m blessed to have done that time and time again through my own work. I only hope to continue to do so in my time here.

What can society do to ensure an environment that’s helpful to artists and creatives?
The world is getting slightly better about this in my opinion but I’d say it’d definitely go a long way if the rest of society treated artists/creatives as if their contributions to society actually matter. I’ve often seen people treat the job of an artist/creative as if it was nothing and that we have no real place in society, as if our contributions to the world are small or seemingly meaningless in the grand scheme of things. Just because we’re not doctors, mechanics, cooks or transit workers doesn’t take away from our contributions to life and society and the fact that art is not only consumed daily but is also the driving force for a lot of inspiration. On some days art even keeps the people of the world going and that shouldn’t be overlooked.

How did you build your audience on social media?
As cliché as this sounds I truly did build my social media fan base up off of being myself. I’ve been on social media for a while now like most people in my generation and at first I was just posting videos of myself rapping over old beats from the 90’s to showcase my talent and that did really well for a long time. Then people started wanting artists (and whoever they were following honestly) to be more personable so I started sharing my thoughts and regular aspects of my life with the world which was appreciated way more than I thought it’d be. This is not to say that that’s the way for everyone to go, some of us are more private than others which is fine, the point is authenticity. Authentically be yourself and live in your truth and the truth of your expression and you will find others who resonate with you and love you for that and that’s the best way I can say to go about building a social media following. That and wow people, be UNDENIABLE!
