We caught up with the brilliant and insightful ChrisCVine a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
ChrisCVine, appreciate you joining us today. Do you wish you had started sooner?
I honestly do think to myself, “what if I started making music earlier?”, “what if I did this at that time?” or “what if I did something different along the way?”. Those questions do often cross my mind and though I could have made better decisions growing up, I’ve been content with the realization that most things will happen when the timing is right. The moments leading up to the start of my music career were very difficult for me because I was struggling in school, in the process of switching schools, and going through my first breakup at the same time. While I was going through that rough patch, it didn’t look like there were many options to choose from. I was bummed out and losing hope that I may never graduate high school, which I somehow did a year early. At this time, I needed a way to release this energy, to feel better and so that’s when I grabbed the mic and recorded my first song. Writing music, even recording drafts on GarageBand has been a passion of mine since I was about 9 or 10 years old. I was always amused by rap music (stemming from my 5 year old self being obsessed with R&B artist Chris Brown) and eventually took it up to myself to write music and record my own songs at a very young age. Remembering all of that, having the passion at such a young age for music, seeing the hapiness and smiles it brought me at such a young age was exactly why my first option in that rough patch at the time was to release my energy and emotions in the form of a song and that very moment is what made music apart of my every day life. I often wonder if I would even be making music to this day so in result of that I think that the timing was absolutely perfect. If it had happened any sooner or any later, my life wouldn’t have worked itself into half of the experiences I’ve been blessed to be apart of. Yeah, Maybe some decisions I’ve made caused me to look past greater doors that could of been opened but I try to mainly look at and appreciate the doors I have opened with hopes to use those experiences to help me become a better artist. The timing couldn’t have been better.
ChrisCVine, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
My name is ChrisCVine, I am a musician and influencer born in Westchester County, NY. Music & entertainment has been apart of my life since I was born. As I said earlier I had a childhood obsession with R&B artist Chris Brown which lead me to discover more artists as well as the genre of Hip-Hop/Rap which quickly became a passion of mine. I grew up playing the drums, covering some classic rock songs (mainly Bon Jovi) and even performed alongside guitarists and vocalists doing covers. When I was about 9 or 10 I saved up and purchased my own audio interface and learned how to record myself. I figured out at that age how to distribute to major platforms and put a track on iTunes. I was always known growing up in my town jokingly as the “rapper” but I wasn’t making music at the time. I had put my full focus into making Vines which allowed me to link up with musicians to help promote them and get them in the studio. I was still writing songs for my own enjoyment though. Eventually I ran into a little hurdle in life so it was time I needed a way to release my energy and emotions so I dug up the lifelong passion of music and it was just the remedy I needed to get me out of that funk. Ever since, I have been performing, filming music videos, and meeting some of the coolest people that exist .I think all of this created a perfect recipe to apply to my life moving on and sets me apart from others because it’s simply the result of turning a negative into a positive which not many people have learned to do. Using those life experiences to allow me to become an artist who’s known to step outside the box and catch my listeners by surprise with catchy hooks and new sounds resulted in me being able to influence many people to live out their passions wether it’s music, arts, social media etc.
What do you think is the goal or mission that drives your creative journey?
Yes, the goal and mission is to be able to give back. Give back to my family and give back to the world. It really hurts me to see people struggle and to see a lot of the judgement and disagreement that goes on in this world. The way I see it is if you’re not causing harm to anyone there is no reason someone should be telling you what to do or judging you for what you do or who you are. Seeing the hatred and violence in this entire world, knowing there are heartless and cold people out there looking to do bad is what’s driving me to pursue my dreams. Im a small voice, chances are maybe I won’t be able to do anything but seeing the success my peers and idols have with their passions allows me to see it is possible to generate a platform that makes some kind of difference and even if it doesn’t go as planned, as long as I’m moving with good intentions and love it will make a small difference. Any difference is a difference and that’s my mission, to move with good intentions and to generate enough success doing what I love so I can give back to those in need and put smiles on peoples faces.
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
This might not make sense but the most rewarding aspect of being a creative is being able to have an outlet that lets me unwind and breathe. Not everyone will understand how music makes me feel or why it makes me feel the way I do but I believe creativity is driven by curiosity and passion. When someone is creating something, it’s theirs, they made it and when its done, having that result of your passion or curiosity in your hand, or playing on your speaker is the most rewarding aspect to me.
