We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Danielle Barcos. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Danielle below.
Alright, Danielle thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. What’s the backstory behind how you came up with the idea for your business?
In 2017/2018 my friend saw how I posted “professional” photos of my dogs on my Facebook page and asked if I would want to take her maternity photos. She told me how great my dog pictures look and I told her it’s not the same as maternity! Lol But I took them and had a lot of fun and really fell in love with the whole human interaction. After that, I started doing it for fun as a hobby for strangers and I constantly did research to start charging a fee and eventually after like 5 free shoots I started charging like $50-$100 and eventually I worked my way up the scale with the more experience I gained.

As always, we appreciate you sharing your insights and we’ve got a few more questions for you, but before we get to all of that can you take a minute to introduce yourself and give our readers some of your back background and context?
I second shot for a photographer in 2020 and as soon as I posted my photos from that wedding I started getting inquiries for weddings and started shooting them. I instantly fell in love and haven’t looked back since! I was actually a medical assistant for 7 years prior and a virtual medical scribe from home when my oldest son was born but when my husband had to go overseas for work I took it as a sign to go full time with photography because the doctor I worked for didn’t renew his contract. I thought what better time to do this than now. I’m definitely most proud of myself for running a business, period. It is super hard and tedious.
I do this for my passion for photography but also for my children. They are my reason why. I am a family woman and take pride in that.
I would love for followers and new clients to know that I love what I do and truly care about your input and I want you to look back on your photos realizing how beautiful everyone is and how amazing those memories will be to look back on!

How did you build your audience on social media?
I started my business audience mainly on Instagram but I did start out with Facebook as well. Instagram I just use so many hashtags honestly. I put all the locations I shoot at or want to shoot at and that’s how most of my clientele finds me! Posting consistently is key.

Any advice for growing your clientele? What’s been most effective for you?
I think being myself. I keep it professional but I also stick to being myself too. I am a straight forward person and blunt but I also keep it professional and will do whatever it takes to make my clients happy!
