We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Ayse Oren a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Ayse, thanks for taking the time to share your stories with us today We’d love to hear about a project that you’ve worked on that’s meant a lot to you.
the book ı am writing is about that has the name Purpose is a meaningful project that I am working on. now. Creating a meaningful project. by using metaphors . creating a layered deep art is my purpose in life. Here in this book. with an architecture point of you. working finding the purpose in life and looking from Architectural and artistic point of you.
Great, appreciate you sharing that with us. Before we ask you to share more of your insights, can you take a moment to introduce yourself and how you got to where you are today to our readers.
“I am Ayse Oren, a pioneering architect and the proud founder of DesignArt. My journey into space architecture began seven years ago, sparked by a fascination with space exploration and a desire to merge this with my passion for design. I’ve always been intrigued by the idea of creating spaces that can sustain human life beyond our planet, and this curiosity led me down the path of space architecture. At DesignArt, I specialize in delivering innovative space architecture and design solutions, catering to a broad spectrum at Kepler Space University. My work ranges from concept development and feasibility studies to meticulous design and effective project management. My mission is to create environments that are not just functional and efficient, but also aesthetically pleasing and conducive to the well-being of their occupants.
One of the key challenges I address is designing habitable spaces within a microgravity environment. The project I have been working on is a lunar base named OASIS is my class project that we are working on Kepler Space University with my classmates Gary Barnhard and Abdulaziz Alareedh.( I want to add my class mates name also). This task calls for innovative solutions to issues such as power, cooling, and storage, all while ensuring a layout that promotes the well-being of the crew and visitors. and the project is supervised by a real genius Frank White. who is the writer of overview effect.
I continually push the boundaries of space architecture and design by exploring new materials, incorporating cutting-edge technologies, and implementing sustainable design practices. I will be presenting the OASIS project for the first time at the ISDC in Dallas on the 28th of May, which also happens to be my birthday. Even though it’s in the initial stages, I am very excited about the project.
I am passionate about creating innovative and functional space environments that inspire and facilitate human exploration and discovery. Driven by the ambition to redefine what’s possible in space architecture and design, I am excited about the future as I continue to advance in this fascinating field.”
Is there mission driving your creative journey?
My creative journey is driven by a specific goal: to transcend the boundaries of time and become an architect and artist of universal value. I believe that art is a philosophy that can be woven into everything we do, and architecture, in particular, is the embodiment of transforming thought into life-sustaining habitats. It’s this fusion of art and architecture that motivates me to create spaces that are not just functional, but also aesthetically inspiring. In this way, I hope to contribute to humanity’s exploration and understanding of space in a way that harmoniously blends form and function, art and architecture.”
What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
One of the most significant lessons I’ve had to learn is the idea that constant action is the key to success. While being bold and courageous is essential, I’ve learned that it’s equally important to know when to pause, reflect, and digest past experiences. Without taking time to rest and evaluate, our minds can become unfocused, leading to blurred visions and unclear results. So, the most valuable lesson I’ve learned is the importance of balance: knowing when to act and when to pause. Keeping an open heart, staying true to my own voice, and preserving my authenticity and originality have become the guiding principles in my journey.
Another crucial lesson I’ve learned is the importance of discernment. It’s vital to keep an eye open and analyze other people’s intentions. It’s okay to listen to others, but it’s essential not to bend to their will if it contradicts my values or vision. This discernment has helped me maintain my path and stay focused on my goals.
These lessons have shaped me as an architect and as an individual, guiding my approach to design and my interactions with others in the industry. They have instilled in me the wisdom to strike a balance between action and reflection, ensuring that every step I take is intentional, grounded, and true to who I am.” It is about being true to yourself.
