We’re excited to introduce you to the always interesting and insightful Gabe Scott. We hope you’ll enjoy our conversation with Gabe below.
Gabe, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to have you retell us the story behind how you came up with the idea for your business, I think our audience would really enjoy hearing the backstory.
Growing up in a big family, my fondest memories of my life were likely at the dinner table or in front of food. My favorite part of each day was sitting as a family at the dinner table, talking about how our days went – the goods, the bads, making fun of and with each other, laughing, screaming, the whole thing. I always wanted to find ways to create a business around creating those environments and experiences for others. How can we create a unique experience with food, beverage, service, and hospitality that changes someone’s day, thought process, or that creates a memory, or invokes nostalgia?
I had talked with my friends about opening a brewery together for years, but timing was never right. The pandemic through the restaurant industry (among others) on it’s back and it made me think differently about how I could continue to be in Hospitality – just in another avenue outside of day-to-day restaurants in NYC. My wife and I have always wanted to do something together, so combining her design skill set with my hospitality experience was a perfect match.

Gabe, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
Landmade is a family run farm brewery in Montgomery County, Maryland. We occupy 33 acres of grounds including a former cattle stable that is home to our Brewery, Tasting Room and General Store, along with several outdoor spaces for our guest’s enjoyment.
All of our beer, cider, and piquette is brewed and fermented on the farm. We make our beer, cider, and piquette using the most local ingredients we can get our hands on including peaches and apples from the farm’s orchards and herbs and natural yeast from the property’s gardens.
We put our spin on ales and lagers with an emphasis on farmhouse and mixed culture fermentation.
We have a full culinary program that is true farm to table and that is ever-changing with the seasons.
We care deeply about making and sharing delicious and exciting beer and food that is made from the land.

We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
When it comes to social media nowadays, it’s a true extension and digital version of you as a business. People are more likely than ever to find you on Social Media as opposed to driving past your business. Finding ways to engage with your local and surrounding communites/locals, and other members of your industry is integral.
You have to find meaningful ways to connect with people in an authentic, direct, and transparent manner. All of our photos are ours, taken by us, and not filtered in any way. We want your experience on-site to match the marketing efforts and what was being presented ahead of your visit.
All of our followers are authentic and natural. We don’t purchase followers. We find unique ways to present our business through still shots, videos, reels, stories, and more.

What’s a lesson you had to unlearn and what’s the backstory?
When I was in my mid-twenties, I came across an amazing opportunity to take over a restaurant in NYC and run it with a really unique concept that I had been working on for a while. Most of the time when the opportunity sounds too good to be true… it is. There was too much miscommunication and we were not aligned with the landlord who we thought we’d be business partners with. Being young, I thought my energy and dedication for the project would prevail, but it wound up driving me in circles without being able to let the concept blossom. The lesson learned was to partner and surround yourself with people that you trust and that you work well with. One team, one dream.
