We caught up with the brilliant and insightful Goar Hovhannisyan a few weeks ago and have shared our conversation below.
Hi Goar, thanks for joining us today. To kick things off, we’d love to hear about things you or your brand do that diverge from the industry standard
In the real estate industry, it’s common for agents to be focused on closing deals and ensuring client satisfaction. However, one thing that sets me apart is my willingness to tell clients “no” when necessary. While it may seem counterintuitive, I believe that being honest and transparent with my clients is crucial, especially when it comes to purchasing a home.
Buying a home is an emotional process, and clients can sometimes become attached to a particular property despite potential drawbacks or issues. As the voice of reason, I understand the importance of providing realistic expectations and ensuring that my clients make informed decisions. Therefore, if I genuinely believe that a house is not the right fit for my clients, I don’t hesitate to express my concerns and advise against the purchase.
By being upfront and honest, I aim to protect my clients from potential regrets or unforeseen challenges in the future. While it may be difficult to hear at the moment, my clients often appreciate my candidness in the long run. I prioritize their best interests above closing a sale, which builds trust and strengthens our professional relationship.
Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I always had a passion for architecture and interior design. However, my path into the real estate industry was somewhat serendipitous. It all began when I had the opportunity to secure a summer internship at a reputable real estate brokerage. While this internship initially had a different focus than what I do now, it opened my eyes to the vast possibilities and challenges within the real estate field. This experience sparked a deep interest in pursuing a career in real estate, as it allowed me to blend my love for architecture and design with the opportunity to assist individuals and families in finding their dream homes. This couldn’t have come at a better time, as I was going down the corporate path and finishing up my bachelor’s degree while feeling lost and dissatisfied.
I dedicated myself to acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to become a licensed agent. I obtained the required certifications, immersed myself in market research, and continuously sought out mentors and industry professionals who could guide me along the way.
Today, as a real estate agent, I specialize in providing comprehensive services to buyers and sellers in the residential and commercial market. I work closely with clients to understand their unique needs, preferences, and financial goals. Whether it’s helping first-time homebuyers navigate the process, assisting families in upsizing or downsizing, or working with investors to identify lucrative opportunities, I deliver exceptional service and exceed client expectations.
What’s been the best source of new clients for you?
The best source of new clients for me has been a combination of Instagram and referrals from past clients. Referrals from past clients have played a significant role in expanding my client base. I am proud to say that I have built strong relationships with my clients, and their satisfaction with my services has led them to refer me to their friends, family, and colleagues. This word-of-mouth recommendation is a testament to the trust and confidence they have in my work, and it is a source of great pride for me.
Instagram has been an incredible platform for me to share my knowledge, expertise, and showcase my work in the real estate industry. By consistently posting valuable content, including tips for homebuyers, market updates, and design inspiration, I have been able to connect with a wider audience and establish myself as a trusted authority in the field. Through Instagram, I’ve been able to engage with potential clients who are actively seeking information and guidance in their real estate journey. By providing valuable insights and establishing a strong online presence, I have been able to attract clients who resonate with my approach and appreciate the expertise I bring to the table.
The combination of leveraging social media platforms like Instagram and delivering exceptional service to my clients has been instrumental in attracting new clients to my business. By consistently providing value, building a strong online presence, and nurturing relationships with my clients.
We’d love to hear the story of how you built up your social media audience?
Initially, I wasn’t particularly fond of posting on social media. However, I had a streetwear clothing business where I quickly realized that my sales heavily relied on engaging with my audience through Instagram. This realization pushed me out of my comfort zone and prompted me to explore different strategies to build a solid online presence.
I started by experimenting with various types of content, including behind-the-scenes glimpses into my clothing brand, marketing materials, and even sharing my personal experiences related to the streetwear industry. Through trial and error, I closely monitored the response of my audience and analyzed which types of posts generated the most engagement and interest.
As I continued to refine my approach, I gradually discovered the content that resonated most with my audience. I focused on creating visually appealing posts, incorporating storytelling elements, and providing value through informative and entertaining content. By consistently delivering content that aligned with my brand’s identity and catered to my audience’s interests, I was able to attract a loyal following and build a community around my streetwear brand.
When I transitioned into the real estate industry, I realized that the principles of building an audience on social media remained the same. I carried over the lessons learned from my streetwear business and applied them to my real estate page.
When building your social media presence, my key tips to keep in mind are to identify your target audience and provide value to them, maintain consistency in posting quality content, experiment and analyze the response from your audience, engage with your followers actively, and network with professionals in your industry to expand your reach. Foster a sense of community and make meaningful connections with your audience by following these strategies. Don’t forget to step outside of your comfort zone!
