We were lucky to catch up with Justice Love recently and have shared our conversation below.
Alright, Justice thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you talk to us about how you learned to do what you do?
I always loved storytelling through the medium of standup comedy. I started writing when I was around 13 years old and that was my plan for most of my teenage years. I planned on doing open mics in in the summer of 2020 but of course that’s when the pandemic happened. During this all I did was watch movies and switch from standup to film. Falling in love with screenwriting and cinematography.
I got my first camera from my moms friend and started taking pictures whenever I could, and thankfully I found a natural talent in it along with editing and cinematography.
Justice, before we move on to more of these sorts of questions, can you take some time to bring our readers up to speed on you and what you do?
Like a lot of creators, it’s hard to put myself in one category. Film is my biggest goal but photography is a huge passion of mine that I would love to explore as well. I’m fortunate enough to have met some very talented friends during my time in college that I am collaborating with on multiple projects throughout this summer and I can’t wait to see what the future holds.
My alone time during the pandemic made me extremely focused on attention to detail, which I believe is one of my biggest assets. I try my best to lighten everyone’s load that I work with and make sure everything goes smoothly and that everyone has a good time creating. Film is a collaborative experience, so why not try to ensure that everyone is happy on set?
As for photography, there’s so many layers as to why I love it. I get to show my perspective on the world and show what I find interesting and beautiful, along with showing other people just how beautiful they are with my portrait photography(which I hope to do more of in the future).
What do you find most rewarding about being a creative?
There’s two separate aspects of creating that are extremely rewarding for me. Number one being the actual process and development of an idea, whether it’s for a photoshoot or a short film. That’s when the imagination is at an all time high and ideas just keep flowing in and out.
The second aspect that feels most rewarding is showing the creation to my peers and audience. Art is all about sharing so there’s nothing better than people appreciate something that you make.
Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal is to just work with people that I find creatively engaging and make amazing art with them! Growing up with type one diabetes, I was often excluded and left out of a lot of activities in and out of school, so I really value collaborating with others, especially when it’s a creative endeavor.
I’ve loved the craft of storytelling since I was a kid so having the opportunity to make a career of doing that is surreal.
