Alright – so today we’ve got the honor of introducing you to Andres Hernandez. We think you’ll enjoy our conversation, we’ve shared it below.
Andres, looking forward to hearing all of your stories today. We’d love to hear the backstory behind a risk you’ve taken – whether big or small, walk us through what it was like and how it ultimately turned out.
Man, taking the risk with music is 100% the biggest gamble. Everything with writing lyrics, recording in the studio with new artist, showing new material to strangers and the biggest one….performing your finish work in front of strangers. I remembered when it came to an opportunity to perform in a showcase contest to compete with other artists, that was one of my most scariest moments in my entire music career. I never performed in front of people before, this was definitely a big fear for me. I didn’t know if the crowd was going to like my music, if they wasn’t going to like how I sounded or worse of all, I feared that I would forget my lyrics on stage. I watched 3 performers do their songs, saw the crowd engaging pretty well with them, I felt like my songs were more unique, started to gain some confidence. I felt like I really had a chance. One of of the judges finally called my name, my heart just sunk. I felt like everything I knew just left my memory. I grabbed the microphone, heard my intro from my first single. Saw the crowd jamming to the beat but I just froze. Told the Dj to run it back, tried to make it seem natural I finally snapped back into it, I went a solid 10-12 bars into my song, started stumbling my lyrics and lost my place in the middle of my song. I couldn’t believe what just happened. I couldn’t think of anything to say or comeback from the rest of the lyrics of my song. I just choked, I was so embarrassed and ashamed. The judges gave me a pep talk, told me that if I was able to deliver the whole song, I would have won the show. Told me how they were impressed of my voice , the lyrics in my song were so descriptive that they can feel it. The judges told me to be more prepared next time, they gave me another shot next month. I finally knew I had what it takes, I just had to take the risk in believing in my own self
Andres, love having you share your insights with us. Before we ask you more questions, maybe you can take a moment to introduce yourself to our readers who might have missed our earlier conversations?
To be honest, I never expected to get into the industry. I truly felt that I stumbled into music. Like I use to just want to make songs and write poetry just for the fun it or just to get some deep thoughts out. I found music to be a escape route from my own reality. It was a way to express my feelings in a way I couldn’t explain to other people. I have to say I’ve been blessed with the people I came across with in this music life. Meeting one of the most talented DJ/Producers in Houston, Named DJ Ex. Who has later introduced me to Producer/Audio Engineer Jacob Andrew who made my first single “Late Nights at #5108” one of my greatest moments in my life to finally have music for the world to listen. I was officially marking my imprint as an artist, I knew I had to keep working to follow up with my first project release. I learned that I was able to stay in pocket with music that I felt more relatable. I created this image of myself that I truly wanted to people to see me as. Everywhere I go , typically see me dressed suit and tie. That’s what I want my brand’s image to be.
For you, what’s the most rewarding aspect of being a creative?
Most rewarding aspect I’ve had was having a small conversation with The Game, yeah the rapper The Game, heard my music I sent to him in his DMs on Instagram and told me how much he likes my vision. Said my music was fire and my sound was unique. This is one my of my idols that I grew up listening to my whole life and I get to hear his opinion on my music. Definitely was one of the greatest feelings I’ve ever felt
: Is there a particular goal or mission driving your creative journey?
My goal in this journey to put all of my friends that worked with me and supported me in a better position, and of course my family to be taken care of. I would be as far as I am in the industry or life if it wasn’t for some individuals keeping me in check with my goals and dreams.
