Alright, Kelsey thanks for taking the time to share your stories and insights with us today. Can you share a customer success story with us?
Years ago, I wrote a services page for a virtual assistant. We started by going through my signature messaging process — client interviews, market research, brand voice discovery, and messaging strategy — because we wanted to create copy that would truly resonate with her ideal clients.
Within the first day of releasing her new copy, she received five new inquiries, and visitors said it was like she was speaking directly to them. Since then, she’s continued to consistently book out these services, and sales feel easier because prospective clients already understand and value her services after reading her copy. On top of that, she feels confident and at ease knowing that the copy on her website sounds true to her voice; it converts from a place of kindness.

Awesome – so before we get into the rest of our questions, can you briefly introduce yourself to our readers.
I’m the founder of a research-based copywriting studio that specializes in messaging strategy, web copy, and complete content support. I help small and mighty brands consistently attract the people they love to serve, across every touchpoint, with clear messaging rooted in voice-of-customer interviews and human connection.
My clients often come to me having spent years second-guessing their copy and wondering how to truly connect with the right people. Drawing on my background as a newspaper journalist, I spend about three hours interviewing each client to help them clarify their voice. Then, I interview their clients and research their market to uncover their brand’s unique value and clearly communicate it.
I used to worry that I wasn’t as “creative” as other copywriters who could come up with clever ideas out of thin air, but over time, I’ve seen how much more powerful a brand’s message can be when it’s rooted in research and crafted to truly connect with the right people.
My clients walk away with renewed clarity and confidence in their brands, and it’s incredible to see them not only making more sales, but more aligned sales, as a result of our work together. I’m proud to say that 65% of my work comes from repeat clients who choose to partner again and again — because once you find a writer who can capture your voice and truly connect with your people, there’s no turning back.
What’s worked well for you in terms of a source for new clients?
The majority of my clients come through referrals from past clients and fellow creatives — especially brand and web designers whose clients need help with their copy. I’ve found that doing great work for each client, delivering on time, and being a team player with their entire creative team can go a long way in generating future referrals.
Are there any books, videos or other content that you feel have meaningfully impacted your thinking?
I love podcasts and have learned a lot from listening to copywriting and business podcasts over the years. These days, a few of my favorites are Creative Pep Talk, Freelance Writing Coach, and Duo On Air.
